Director of Finance

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established financial services company based in Irvine, CA, is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to join their leadership team. This is a hybrid role offering the opportunity to lead financial planning, reporting, and strategic initiatives for a growing organization. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting/finance skills combined with the ability to partner cross-functionally and influence business decisions at the leadership level.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the financial planning & analysis (FP&A) function, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and ensure accuracy and timeliness of deliverables
  • Partner with senior leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making
  • Manage and mentor a team of finance/accounting professionals, fostering growth and development
  • Develop and monitor key financial metrics, KPIs, and dashboards to track business performance
  • Drive process improvements and enhance financial systems, controls, and reporting infrastructure
  • Support annual audit processes and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies
  • Prepare financial presentations and reporting packages for executive leadership and/or board-level review
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Operations, Accounting, Risk, IT) to align financial strategy with business objectives
  • Assist with special projects, including system implementations, M&A analysis, or capital planning as needed

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 8+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including prior management experience
  • Industry experience in banking, mortgage, or financial services required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with ERP and financial planning systems
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage a team

Preferred:

  • CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
  • Experience in banking, mortgage, or financial services industries preferred
  • Experience working in a hybrid or fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
  • Familiarity with financial systems implementations or process automation initiatives
