Job description

We are currently looking for a P & C Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and control system detailed design, cost estimating, and bid document preparation for commercial, industrial, generation, renewables, and utility power systems.

Duties

  • Create/modify one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable lists for substations, relay settings and configuration files.
  • Design auxiliary AC and DC power systems.
  • Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such power transformers, power circuit breakers, control house, panel construction specification and other high-voltage substation related materials;
  • Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design staff in order to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems;
  • Perform basic calculations such as voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, lighting, and short circuit with minimal supervision;
  • Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings with minimal supervision;
  • Assist project manager to develop scope of work and conceptual design for the projects;
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed;
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members;
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of one's work;
  • Panel construction specifications (panel and interconnect wiring as well as panel layouts and elevations).
  • Comfortable evaluating/reviewing control features, and communication/protocol aspects of protective relays, RTU’s, LTC Controllers, and other equipment as well as relay setting coordination.
  • Aid in testing and commissioning as needed pertaining to system startups and functional checks.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 5 or more years of experience in protection and control system design, cost estimating, and bid document preparation for medium voltage electrical power projects.
  • A PE license from a US State (NC and NY) is preferred.
  • Successful track record designing Protection and Control Systems.
  • Knowledge of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), NERC, NEC, NESC, NEMA, and ANSI standards used in designing substation is critical.
  • Experience with telecommunications, protective relaying, and automation (SCADA) is required.
  • Desired knowledge in low voltage coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Familiarity with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, General Electric and Basler equipment.
  • Periodic travel, ability to visit project sites.
  • Desired software knowledge in:

Salary Range: $90,000 - $117,000 per year
The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.
