Job description

Senior Workload Automation Scheduler

The Senior Workload Automation Scheduler supports the daily operations of Control-M to ensure the stable operation of the organization's workload automation platform and its underlying job schedules across all divisions. The incumbent will build, support and manage all aspects of the Control-M tool. The Workload Automation Scheduler will work closely with the job scheduling team and be responsible for coordinating and testing (where applicable) the interoperability of application job flows across enterprise business applications.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, execute, and manage the Control-M job scheduling of new applications into existing systems and software throughout the enterprise.
  • Troubleshoot failed jobs and determine/manage calendar scheduling.
  • Ensure that job scheduling meets business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Ensure that job scheduling planning and practices are aligned with strategic business goals and the company's overall strategic vision.
  • Develop standards and processes to support and facilitate job scheduling initiatives.
  • Build and troubleshoot all aspects within the Control-M tool. Create jobs, modify calendars, setup BIM, apply standards.
  • Utilize the Workload Change Manager tool and methodology to deploy and manage jobs.
  • Serve as backup for System Architect – using UNIX Shell Script, PERL Script, BATCH Script, SQL, PL/SQL utilities, DB Management: PostgreSQL, Oracle
  • Ensure the collection and coherent interpretation of the various business processes affected by job scheduling efforts.
  • Work diligently to enhance or improve business processes via job scheduling, or, as necessary, minimize the impact of risk on those processes.
  • Evaluate results of job scheduling, then report and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Perform Workload Automation security audits as required.
  • Where applicable, investigate and qualify potential areas in which to introduce new job scheduling techniques, best practices, or products.
  • Where necessary, provide guidance/training to new/junior members of the team.
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Assist with planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures within the Workload Automation products and services where applicable.
  • Research and make recommendations on job scheduling and related services in support of ongoing/future procurement and development efforts.
  • Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of job scheduling programs and applications.

Qualifications

Formal Education & Certification
  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology field of study (e.g., Information Technology, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Systems Management, Mathematics) or equivalent experience.
Knowledge & Experience
  • 5+ years of IT Experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with BMC Control-M.
  • Strong knowledge of BMC Control-M Workload Automation and job scheduling.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles.
  • Proven experience in overseeing the Control-M job scheduling of cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.
  • Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping and methodology development, and job flow mapping.
  • Strong experience with core software applications.
  • Detail oriented, good time management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
  • Strong understanding of end-user needs and requirements.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
