Senior Principal Software Product Owner/Release Train Engineer (RTE)
Strategic Solutions – Collins Aerospace, Richardson, TX

Overview

Collins Aerospace’s Strategic Solutions team seeks an experienced Senior Principal Software Product Owner and Release Train Engineer to lead mission‑critical software development for the U.S. armed forces. The role blends Product Owner, Control Account Manager, and RTE responsibilities within a large, cross‑functional program, driving successful delivery in a DevSecOps cloud environment.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the Release Train Engineer for the Mission Systems Software team, facilitating PI planning, backlog refinement, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Serve as Product Owner for the Software Systems domain, decomposing requirements, modeling with Cameo, and validating software integration and verification.
  • Coordinate with Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT), Software Architects, Scrum Masters and Engineers to meet mission functionality and schedule goals.
  • Manage the scope as Control Account Manager, ensuring flawless execution and delivery of commitments.
  • Engage with cross‑functional stakeholders across multiple locations on a large program.
  • Mentor interns, junior through senior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and predictable execution.
Qualifications – Must Have
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience (or 7 years with an advanced degree in STEM).
  • Prior Product Owner experience in an Agile / SAFe environment.
  • Experience as a Release Train Engineer.
  • Experience with Agil SDLC and DevSecOps pipelines.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active, transferable U.S. government‑issued security clearance.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Prior Control Account Manager role.
  • Requirements management (decomposition, derivation).
  • Software Systems engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with UML, SysML, MBSE, and CAMEO modeling tools.
  • Jira experience.
