What is a control account manager?

Control Account Managers (CAMs) are professionals responsible for managing specific segments of a project’s budget, schedule, and technical performance within organizations that use earned value management (EVM) systems. They oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of assigned control accounts, ensuring that project objectives are met on time and within budget. CAMs act as the primary point of contact for their control accounts, coordinating with project managers, finance teams, and technical staff to track progress, resolve issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.

What is the difference between Control Account Manager vs Project Coordinator?

AspectControl Account ManagerProject Coordinator

The Project Coordinator handles administrative and logistical tasks to facilitate project progress, typically with less emphasis on financial management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a control account manager?

To thrive as a Control Account Manager, you need expertise in project management, cost estimating, budgeting, and earned value management, often supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools like Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and EVM software, as well as certifications such as PMP or EVMP, is highly beneficial. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure precise control over project performance, enabling timely delivery within scope and budget.

How does a control account manager typically interact with project teams and stakeholders?

A Control Account Manager (CAM) serves as the main point of contact for their assigned control accounts, regularly collaborating with project managers, engineers, finance teams, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met. CAMs are responsible for integrating schedules, budgets, and technical requirements, so they frequently attend status meetings, provide progress updates, and address any risks or issues that arise. Effective communication and coordination are essential, as CAMs must ensure that deliverables align with contract requirements and organizational goals. This role often requires balancing multiple priorities and facilitating cross-functional teamwork to keep projects on track.

Job description

Account Manager – Garrett Schafer State Farm Agency

Cumming, GA (Forsyth County)
Base Salary + Uncapped Commission + Bonuses

Are You a Sales Hunter Who Wants Freedom, Opportunity, and Unlimited Upside?

We're not looking for someone who wants to maintain accounts, follow a script, or spend their day waiting for direction.

We're looking for a confident, competitive, self-driven sales professional who wants to WIN, earn exceptional income, and build a career with significant growth potential.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy solving problems, love competition, and want the freedom to pursue your goals without being micromanaged, keep reading.

This is an opportunity for someone who:

  • Bets on themselves
  • Wants control over their income and future
  • Learns quickly and adapts fast
  • Enjoys solving problems and making decisions
  • Is energized by people, competition, and closing deals
  • Wants freedom, accountability, and opportunity
  • Is interested in developing leadership and business skills
  • Wants to build a career, not simply work a job

We provide coaching, mentorship, proven systems, and support. What we don't provide is constant hand-holding.

Our top performers are self-starters who see opportunity where others see obstacles. They take action while others are still thinking about it.

Many of our most successful team members have backgrounds in athletics, military service, entrepreneurship, commission-based sales, or other highly competitive environments where performance matters.

What You'll Do

As an Account Manager with Garrett Schafer State Farm Agency, you'll help individuals, families, and business owners protect what matters most while building strong relationships throughout one of Georgia's fastest-growing communities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Generating new business through prospecting, networking, referrals, and follow-up
  • Identifying customer needs and recommending insurance and financial services solutions
  • Developing leads, scheduling appointments, and closing sales
  • Building long-term client relationships that generate repeat business and referrals
  • Working alongside experienced mentors while developing your own sales approach
  • Helping clients with auto, home, life, business, and financial services products

This is not a "sit and wait" sales role.

You will have the freedom to pursue opportunities, build relationships, generate business, and create your own success. With that freedom comes ownership, accountability, and substantial earning potential.

Who Thrives Here

The right person is:

  • Competitive and results-driven
  • Self-confident and decisive
  • Coachable and growth-minded
  • Friendly, outgoing, and relationship-oriented
  • Comfortable taking initiative without waiting for permission
  • Motivated by achievement, advancement, and income potential
  • Energized by variety, challenge, and new opportunities

This role is probably not a fit if you prefer highly structured environments where every step is prescribed, require constant direction before taking action, or are uncomfortable being measured by performance and results.

This role is an excellent fit if you enjoy taking ownership, embracing challenges, creating opportunities, and being rewarded for your effort and performance.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation

  • Base Salary + Uncapped Commission
  • Performance Bonuses
  • Realistic First-Year Earnings: $60,000 - $80,000+
  • Significant upside potential for top performers

Benefits

  • 401(k) Matching
  • Health Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • Training & Development
  • Advancement Opportunities
  • Supportive Team Environment

Why Join Our Team?

At Garrett Schafer State Farm Agency, we're committed to helping people protect what they've worked hard to build while creating opportunities for our team members to grow personally, professionally, and financially.

We believe in:

  • Working hard
  • Competing at a high level
  • Taking ownership
  • Serving clients exceptionally well
  • Continuous improvement
  • Having fun while winning

If you're looking for a career where your effort, initiative, and performance directly impact your income, freedom, growth, and future opportunities, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and show us what you're capable of.

This position is with an independent State Farm Agent, not State Farm Insurance Companies. Employees of State Farm agents must complete applicable licensing and training requirements. State Farm agents are independent contractors who hire their own employees.
