Job description

The HVAC Mechanic supports the Social Security Administration and reports to the hiring manager. This position is 100% onsite.
Fortis Industries LLC is interviewing for an HVAC Mechanic. The HVAC Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection and control of all preventive maintenance and repair of building and facility mechanical systems and related services associated with the Social Security Administration located in Birmingham, AL. This is an on-site role. This position requires practical skills and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work at a commercial level. The working HVAC Mechanic must foster teamwork, cooperation, and results while monitoring efficiency, productivity and fiscally responsible.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of contractual requirements and creation of schedules.
  • Utilizes Tsheets timekeeping daily, logging in and out for lunch.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and maintain organization.
  • Maintains, repairs and ensures all equipment is in proper working condition including HVAC systems, water treatment systems and emergency generator systems and various other mechanical systems.
  • Ability to replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, replacing sinks, water coolers, toilets, equipment; repairing or replacing floor tiles, replace paneling, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and perform general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Orders replacement items through purchasing, and works with vendors regarding repairs to existing equipment.
  • Submits receipts on a weekly basis to the corporate office for processing.
  • Perform any additional duties on an "as required" basis where such duties are within the scope of contractual responsibilities.
  • Issue reports and summaries as required.
  • Maintain appropriate records and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Resolves clients' concerns, conducts follow-up calls and makes onsite visit inspections for satisfactory job performance.
  • Meet periodically with clients and on site personnel to review status of various elements of facility services and to institute corrective measures for any deficiencies found.
  • Create estimates as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America
  • Possess a Driver’s license or ID card issued by a State or outlying possession of the United States provided it contains a photograph or information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and address
  • Have a Social Security Card issued and approved by the Social Security Administration
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Speak English fluently, read and comprehend written English, and compose coherent written reports in English
  • The HVAC Technician will have 5+ years’ experience in operation and maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems comparable in complexity to systems covered by this contract (raised floor computer room.)
  • All personnel shall possess all certifications and licenses required by the State of Alabama, Jefferson County and the City of Birmingham
    • NATE Core Service with Air Distribution Service Specialty
    • Universal certificate of completion as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F. EPA Technician Certification is required under the regulation implementing Section 608 of the Clean Air Act Amendments.
  • All personnel shall be designated as a Commercial/Industrial HVAC/R Service Technician.
Pay:
  • $28.29 per hour plus
  • Health amp; Welfare - $553.85 per biweekly pay-period to pay for benefits
