Job Summary
The Senior Mechanical Estimator is a key leader within the Estimating team, responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive mechanical construction estimates for complex industrial projects. This role oversees the full mechanical estimating process-including quantity takeoffs, labor and equipment analysis, material pricing, subcontractor evaluations, and risk assessments-for projects up to $25M or higher depending on scope and selfperformance. The Senior Mechanical Estimator interprets mechanical drawings, piping and equipment specifications, isometrics, and contract documents to build detailed work breakdown structures and precise cost models.

Specifically, this role will focus on estimation within the mining industry, taking on estimating for specific mining-related projects in the given region.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Project Estimation:

  • Lead preparation of detailed estimates for projects up to $50MM, considering complexity and self-performance scope.
  • Validate quantity take-offs and ensure accurate input into estimating software.
  • Apply advanced cost analysis and contingency planning for risk mitigation.

Technical Expertise:

  • Interpret and analyze P&ID drawings and other technical documents.
  • Utilize HCSS HeavyBid software for accurate and efficient estimating.
  • Incorporate design methodologies such as DesignAssist and DesignBuild when applicable.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Represent the estimating team in client meetings, pre-bid conferences, and negotiations.
  • Communicate clearly with operations, procurement, and project management teams during pre-construction.

Process Management:

  • Develop and enforce estimating procedures, including pre-estimate checklists and opportunity matrices.
  • Oversee bid review meetings and ensure timely submission of RFIs and proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and company standards.
  • Present the "Risk Assessment" evaluation on each project Mining estimates

Strategic Contributions:

  • Provide pragmatic analysis of project execution to optimize efficiency and profitability.
  • Generate high-level cash flow projections, risk analysis reports, and resource-loaded schedules.
  • Support business development with conceptual estimates and ROM pricing for new opportunities.

Other duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in industrial construction estimating, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Previous experience Estimating within the mining industry
  • Estimating experience with Accubid, HCSS, HeavyBid, and/or HeavyJob
  • Ability to read Interpret P&ID drawings and other technical schematics.
  • Scheduling experience with MSP or P6.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite emphasis on Project Schedule and Excel Tracking.
  • MSHA Training

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Direct Involvement In civil, concrete, structural steel, equipment setting, and mechanical construction.
  • Experience with DesignAssist and DesignBuild delivery methods.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex bids simultaneously.

Work Environment:

  • Mostly Indoor office setting with controlled temperature.
  • Frequent Outdoor Mine sites with exposure to extreme weather, potential exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, or other environmental factors.
  • Travel requirements: up to 25% of time.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator from time to time at the mine site
  • This role requires compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro's Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
