Job description

Structural Engineer


The S/L/A/M Collaborative has an opening in our Glastonbury, CT office for a Structural Engineer with 5-10+ years of experience. In this role you will work directly with project teams to aid in managing the structural design process from project inception through construction.


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with design and structural analysis of medium to large size projects utilizing software packages such as Tekla Structural Designer, RAM Structural System, TEDDS and Enercalc
  • Coordinate with the client, Architects, municipal agencies, and other design team members and consultants
  • Computer modeling of building foundation and superstructure systems
  • Preparation of plans and specifications, structural drawings, and construction administration tasks
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs
  • Application of standard engineering design principles and sound engineering judgment to accomplish work assignments
  • Keep clear records of all design calculations and work product


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirements are a Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering; Master of Science is preferred
  • 5 – 10+ years of relevant experience in structural analysis and design of medium to large size projects in office design, healthcare, schools, higher education, tenant renovations and research facilities
  • Knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with Architects and Contractors to address design and construction issues
  • Proficiency in RAM, Enercalc and Tekla Structural Designer preferred
  • Ability to work in Revit and AutoCAD a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Detail oriented with strong people and team skills
  • Professional Engineer's (PE) or Structural Engineers (SE) license preferred; ability to obtain licensure required
