Job description

Crisis Shelter Associate
Help break the cycle of violence and assist survivors in rebuilding their lives by becoming part of the Violence Intervention Program team. Though our emergency shelter, you will offer compassion and hope to adult and child victims of domestic violence as they transition to a life free from abuse.
As Crisis Shelter Associate you will:
  • Maintain a safe, secure, comfortable environment by overseeing shelter activities and organizing self-care and group events
  • Answer the domestic violence/sexual assault hotline
  • Provide crisis counseling, safety planning, and information/referrals to residents and callers on the hotline
  • Coordinate intake into the shelter
  • Accompany victims to hospitals and police stations
  • Assist with case management

The following hours/shifts are available:
  • Part-time position works 16 hours/week, 8 AM - 4 PM, weekends [eligible for $0.65/hour additional shift pay]
  • Part-time position works 16 hours/week, 4 PM - 12 AM, weekends [eligible for $1.00/hour additional shift pay]
  • Part-time position works 16 hours/week, 12 AM - 8 AM, weekends [eligible for $1.50/hour additional shift pay]
    • This shift has a PENDING HIRE
  • Substitutes work hours as needed by the program, with additional shift pay for qualifying shifts.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED/HSED; one year of relevant experience in domestic violence, counseling, or human services; New York State Department of Health Rape Crisis Certification within six months of employment; valid, unrestricted New York State driver's license and reliable transportation.
