Summary:
  • Perform requested studies and manipulate data requiring the use of MRI as a diagnostic tool for patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • A. Screen patients and any others entering magnetic field for ferrous and RF-sensitive materials. a. Confirm patient ID as per established protocol b. Obtain relevant medical history from patient, medical records, relatives, and health care providers. B. Perform all MRI procedures as established in MRI protocol manual a. Uses his or her professional judgment to adapt imaging to improve diagnostic quality b. Measures the procedure against established protocols, identifies any exceptions to expected outcome, documents any exceptions clearly. c. Scan patient documents into Synapse. Verify previous reports and scans available for Radiologist. Document any exceptions from the established criteria or procedures. Complete synapse checklist. d. Review e-mails regularly for updates to patient and department protocols posted by Lead Technologists and Director. e. Uses his or her professional judgment to adapt imaging to improve diagnostic quality f. Introduces him/herself to patient to establish a positive relationship with the patient and significant others. g. Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure. h. Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medical condition, insufficient patient preparation or implants that may not be safe. i. Determines the need for accessory equipment - selects the appropriate coil, determines optimum placement of ECG electrodes, and selects appropriate immobilization devices. j. Provides adequate history pertaining to study. k. Determines and administers the appropriate type of contrast agent based on the patient's age and weight. Performs Venipuncture, IV patency and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines. l. Provides accurate explanations and instructions. Addresses and documents concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. m. Responds to questions about MRI risk factors. n. Refers questions about diagnosis, treatment or prognosis to the patient's physician. o. Provides appropriate information to anyone involved in the patient's care. p. Communicates any incidents affecting patient care/management. Fills out incident report when necessary. q. Completes ADR form, calls Bayer to report Adverse Drug Reaction. Completes incident report. r. Administers first aid or provides life support in emergency situations according to hospital and departmental guidelines. s. Provides hearing protection to patient and anyone in the exam room during the performance of the MRI. C. MAINTAINS DEPARTMENT COORDINATION (Inpatient and Outpatient) • Maintains patient logbook. Documents exceptions from the established criteria or procedure. o Communicates with service assistants regarding patient's appointment. Scans patients within 15 minutes of appointment time. Inform patients of delays as they occur. • Elicits confidence and cooperation from the patient, the public and other health care providers by providing timely communication and effective instruction. • Instructs health care providers and students regarding MRI procedures. • Maintains supplies. Anticipates usage and notifies supervisor of supplies needed. • Promptly transfers images to PACS and notifies Radiologist for Stats or urgent cases. • Collect data/statistics for QA projects as assigned by supervisor or administrative director. • Cover on call and holiday hours. Cover other MRI centers on per-diem/as needed basis. D. EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE • Maintains equipment according to manufacturer guidelines. • Performs quality assurance activities based on established protocols. • Determines whether the performance of equipment and materials is safe for practice based on outcome assessment. • Places service call regarding malfunction of equipment.

Credentials:
  • Amer Registry Radiologic Tech (Required)
  • Education: Graduate of accredited school. ARRT license and registered. Must possess MRI Registry credentials or must obtain within 1 year from hire date. Experience: 3-5 years MRI experience preferred. Philips MRI equipment experience helpful.
