Job description

Position Overview

Our organization is in search of a Section Chief for Imaging Informatics within the Radiology Service. Located at the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, this department delivers a range of Radiology subspecialty services, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care for Veterans throughout central Arizona. The Chief of Imaging Informatics will be responsible for managing the enterprise-wide PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) operations and supervising the dedicated staff involved in this area. This role also includes overseeing the digital image sharing processes between PVAHCS and Community Care partners.

The Radiology Service is one of the largest clinical departments at PVAHCS, employing over 130 individuals across nine specialty divisions. These divisions encompass:

  • Staff Radiology
  • Vascular and Interventional Radiology Services
  • CT Services
  • Nuclear Medicine Services
  • Ultrasound Services
  • Breast Imaging Services
  • Diagnostic Radiology
  • MRI Services
  • Clerical Services
Each division has unique procedures and systems for patient flow, scheduling, quality monitoring, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Currently, the Phoenix Radiology department has 24 radiologists providing both subspecialty and general radiology coverage, with a preference for candidates specializing in Neuroradiology or Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiology.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: Competitive annual salary of up to $400,000, along with an annual performance bonus and regular salary increases.

Sign-on Bonus: Up to 25% of your annual salary.

Paid Time Off: Enjoy 50-55 days of paid time off each year, which includes 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days for Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Retirement: Access to a traditional federal pension (with a 5-year vesting period) and a federal 401k plan with contributions of up to 5% from the organization.

Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance options, many of which can be continued into retirement.

CME: 5 days of paid leave for CME activities, plus a reimbursement of up to $2,500 annually.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Eligible for a student loan repayment program offering up to $200,000.

Malpractice Coverage: Liability protection is provided at no cost, including tail coverage.

Contractual Terms: No Physician Employment Contract is required, and there are no significant restrictions on moonlighting.

*Note: Board certification is required to qualify for the 5 days off for CME.

**EDRP Eligibility: This position qualifies for the EDRP, a student loan repayment program. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of starting. Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the application. Previous participants are not eligible to reapply.

Employment Requirements
  • A Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited medical or osteopathic institution.
  • Possession of one full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory, which must remain current and active.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory; non-citizens may only be considered if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.
