Job description

Commercial HVAC Controls Technician

Central Region – Louisville, Lexington and Charleston

Perfection Group is hiring a Commercial HVAC Controls Technician for a hybrid Service and Building Automation Systems role supporting our Central Region.

This position combines hands-on commercial HVAC service with controls, connectivity, and building automation work. You’ll troubleshoot mechanical equipment, controls, system communications, and related network issues to help customers maintain reliable and efficient facility operations.

The role requires approximately 15–20% annual travel among Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky, and Charleston, West Virginia. Paid drive time, a company vehicle, major tools, and continued technical training are provided.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain commercial HVAC controls and building automation systems
  • Diagnose communication, controller, sensor, programming, and system-integration issues
  • Work with Carrier, Trane, Johnson Controls, and other commercial HVAC and controls platforms
  • Configure controllers, routers, switches, hubs, and related building automation network equipment
  • Troubleshoot BACnet, IP, LAN, WAN, and other controls-network connectivity issues
  • Back up building automation databases, programs, configurations, and related system data
  • Configure user access, permissions, security settings, and system parameters
  • Review system performance data, alarms, trends, and network activity to identify operational concerns
  • Install and update controls-related software, firmware, and security components
  • Document programming changes, network configurations, service activity, and system deficiencies
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain chillers, boilers, rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, and related commercial HVAC equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues
  • Calibrate equipment and controls according to manufacturer requirements
  • Perform preventive maintenance to improve system reliability and efficiency
  • Explain equipment conditions, controls issues, and recommended solutions clearly to customers
  • Coordinate with dispatch and communicate schedule changes or delays promptly
  • Participate in a rotating emergency on-call schedule
  • Travel among customer locations throughout the Central Region
  • Participate in company- and vendor-provided training
You May Be a Great Fit If You
  • Have three to five years of commercial or industrial HVAC service, controls, or building automation experience
  • Understand how HVAC equipment, controls, communications, and building automation networks work together
  • Are familiar with Carrier, Trane, Johnson Controls, and similar commercial equipment and controls platforms
  • Hold a Tridium Niagara 4 certification or have significant hands-on Niagara experience
  • Can troubleshoot controllers, sensors, wiring, communication networks, sequences, and mechanical equipment
  • Understand BACnet, IP-based controls, routers, switches, LAN/WAN connectivity, and system security
  • Diagnose complex problems accurately and develop practical, technically sound solutions
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, dispatch, leadership, and technical partners
  • Work independently while remaining connected and accountable to a regional team
  • Take ownership of documentation, programming backups, service records, tools, and customer commitments
  • Are organized and comfortable supporting multiple customers across a regional territory
  • Can travel approximately 15–20% annually among Louisville, Lexington, and Charleston
  • Hold a Universal EPA Section 608 certification
  • Have completed an accredited HVAC technical or trade-school program
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
