Job description

As an HSE Manager, for region Feluy, you are responsible for ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance on our construction projects. You ensure that all employees, subcontractors, and visitors on site can work safely and healthily, and that environmental regulations are respected. For the duration of a specific project, you act as the main point of contact and are responsible for implementing policies that meet the expectations of Jan De Nul, legal requirements, and any specific client demands regarding Health, Safety, and Environment. You lead one or more team members who are also assigned to the project and are responsible for the practical implementation of the HSE policy. As HSE Manager, you serve as a bridge between Jan De Nul’s QHSSE team, the on-site execution team, and the client.

Some of your duties
  • You are the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) matters towards the client and communicate with them regularly about the HSE situation on site.
  • You communicate with subcontractors about safety aspects and ensure they comply with all health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • You are familiar with the client’s contractual HSE expectations and ensure these are fully met.
  • You develop a policy, process, and structure to meet the HSE requirements and ensure these are followed.
  • Where possible, you aim to apply Jan De Nul’s QHSSE policy, including that of temporary partners within a Temporary Association (TM).
  • You monitor the implementation of the HSE policy and process, ensuring full compliance with all procedures.
  • You are able to identify what is needed to maintain successful HSE performance.
  • You manage one or more project team members who carry out tasks such as site inspections, safety rounds, administrative duties, etc., to ensure all HSE requirements are met.
  • You follow up on client HSE audits and ensure proper closure.
  • You conduct proactive audits to continuously improve our EHS (Environment, Health, Safety) standards.
  • You organize coaching sessions for workers on critical or problematic topics.
What do you need

You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental management, safety management, construction, mechanics, or a related field. You have at least 10 years of experience as a Prevention Advisor (HSE professional) in construction. You have a good command of English and French. Dutch is an added value. You are communicative and socially skilled. You are able and willing to engage with anyone in an appropriate and respectful manner. You can coach and guide others effectively. You are able to set priorities and plan efficiently to meet deadlines. You are assertive and confident. When you see an unsafe situation, you speak up and investigate it thoroughly. You stand your ground and are not afraid to push back appropriately when facing resistance. You are flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions on site. You enjoy collaborating with the site management team, while maintaining a practical and critical perspective.
