Job description

Introduction

Maryland 529 consists of two\r\nactive savings programs, the Maryland Senator Edward J. Kasemeyer College\r\nInvestment Plan and the Maryland ABLE Program. The Maryland Senator Edward J.\r\nKasemeyer College Investment Plan is designed to help individuals and families\r\nsave for college in a tax-advantaged account. The Maryland College Investment\r\nPlan (MCIP) offers a variety of investment options to suit account holder's\r\nfuture education goals. Maryland ABLE (MD ABLE) provides people with\r\ndisabilities a method to save and invest without jeopardizing means tested\r\nbenefits and is responsible for educating people with disabilities, their\r\nfamilies, and other stakeholders in the disability community about the\r\neligibility criteria, enrollment, and account management process for Maryland\r\nABLE accounts. All programs under Maryland 529 are overseen by the Maryland\r\nState Treasurer's Office.\r\n

LOCATION OF POSITION

Baltimore, MD.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

This position will serve as the ambassador for MD 529 to market the MCIP investment savings program. This position will conduct public relations activities for Maryland 529 such participation at assigned conferences, expos, and community fairs; and will provide clear and concise presentations for school systems, and service provider agencies. This position will distribute informational or promotional MD 529 materials in accordance with the MD 529 program.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position serves as an ambassador to promote MD 529 programs throughout Maryland including the following counties: Baltimore, Baltimore County, Cecil, Howard, Harford, Anne Arundel, and Carroll County. There may be events that require travel to eastern and western Maryland.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis is a contractual, part-time position limited to 200 hours per year within the State Treasurer's Office. The incumbent will receive the schedule for conferences, and outreach activities in advance. Hours will vary depending on the set activities per month.\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six years of experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects: English, journalism, public relations, writing or other similar and related areas of study and two years of experience in public information, public relations, journalism or other related experience in publicity or promotional work for the required experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces militaryservice experience as a commissioned officer in public affairs specialist classification or public affairs specialty codes in the information and arts field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Experience\r\n presenting in both large and small groups.\r\n Experience\r\n as an ambassador for a program, company, or product. \r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be subject to a background\r\ninvestigation to include driving, credit, and criminal history. Employees in\r\nthis classification may be assigned duties which require travel to off-site\r\nlocations to attend promotional events. Employees assigned such duties\r\nwill be required to make travel arrangements to attend the off-site events in\r\nthe central Maryland area with equipment to set up at the promotional event.\r\n
