Job description

Position Description
Assists in providing leadership and direction for an assigned area within the athletic department. Responsible for the development, coordination, and administration of the department. Responsible for employees in the assigned area.
Major/Essential Functions
  • Lead the planning, development, coordination, and execution of marketing, promotions, and fan engagement strategies for Texas Tech Athletics and its 17 varsity sports programs.
  • Oversee all elements of the football game day experience, including in-game entertainment, scripting, presentations, student engagement, spirit groups, promotional elements, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a best-in-class atmosphere and fan experience.
  • Direct game day operations, presentations, and promotional activities for assigned athletic events while providing oversight and support for additional sports as needed.
  • Develop and implement initiatives designed to increase attendance, enhance the fan experience, strengthen student engagement, and support overall revenue generation efforts.
  • Work closely with the ticket office to develop and execute ticket sales campaigns, promotional plans, and attendance-driving initiatives for selected sports.
  • Oversee departmental digital advertising efforts and external advertising trade partnerships, including paid digital campaigns, promotional placements, and trade agreements designed to support brand visibility, attendance, fan engagement, and revenue goals.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Promotions and Fan Engagement unit, including strategic planning, staff oversight, workflow management, communication, and operational execution.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate full-time staff members, graduate assistants, interns, and student workers within the Promotions and Fan Engagement unit.
  • Serve as the primary athletics liaison to university spirit groups, including the Goin' Band from Raiderland, cheer, pom, High Riders, Saddle Tramps, and other game day groups to ensure alignment and coordination for athletic events.
  • Coordinate on-field and on-court presentations with campus partners, corporate partners, external groups, sponsors, and special guests during athletic events and special functions.
  • Partner with communications, creative services, social media, ticket sales, Learfield, development, and other campus and athletics units to develop cohesive marketing and fan engagement strategies that promote Texas Tech Athletics and strengthen the department's overall brand.
  • Develop and execute community engagement initiatives and external events that positively promote Texas Tech Athletics and strengthen relationships with fans, alumni, students, and the Lubbock community.
  • Work collaboratively with outside entities, vendors, venues, and corporate partners to ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled and that all events reflect positively on Texas Tech Athletics.
  • Assist with strategic planning and implementation of innovative fan engagement initiatives, digital promotions, game presentation concepts, and emerging industry trends designed to elevate the Texas Tech Athletics brand and fan experience.
  • Comply with all NCAA, Big 12, and Texas Tech University rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in marketing, fan engagement, game presentation, or external operations within collegiate athletics or professional sports.
  • Previous experience working in college athletics and a strong understanding of the operational structure, culture, and demands of a Division I athletics department.
  • Ability to lead and develop staff while managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative and forward-thinking mindset with the ability to develop innovative fan engagement and attendance-driving strategies.
  • Strong understanding of the evolving collegiate athletics landscape, including branding, revenue generation, student engagement, and digital strategy.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to providing a first-class fan experience and representing Texas Tech Athletics in a positive and professional manner.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Three (3) years experience in an intercollegiate athletics department or other work experience that would demonstrate the necessary background and knowledge. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
