California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Civil Engineering. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Position description: The Civil Engineering Department at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Structural Engineering beginning in Fall 2027. The department is particularly interested in candidates who bring forward-thinking perspectives to structural engineering education, scholarship, and professional practice.
While the position is primarily intended for appointment at the Assistant Professor level, candidates with substantial academic, research, and professional accomplishments may be considered for tenure-track appointment at the Associate Professor rank.
The successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering and related civil engineering areas. Teaching assignments will be based on departmental needs and may include lower-division, upper-division, laboratory, and graduate-level courses.
- Establish an active scholarly agenda, pursuing externally funded research and applied projects, mentoring student research, and collaborating with industry and academic partners.
- Contribute to curriculum development and support the continued advancement of hands-on, industry-connected learning experiences.
- Participate in department, college, and university service activities.
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with emphasis in the field of Structural Engineering, by the date of appointment. The Ph.D. degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence or strong teaching interest in engineering.
- Evidence of ongoing scholarly research in the field of structural engineering, or evidence of professional practice.
The department is particularly interested in candidates with one or more of the following qualifications:
