Job description

The Omni team is looking for an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer to help build and evolve a platform that powers shared game and player experiences across Amazon's gaming ecosystem. Omni provides capabilities that can be reused across games, allowing game teams to focus on building differentiated player experiences instead of independently building and operating common backend functionality.
As a Senior SDE on Omni, you will own the architecture and delivery of large-scale distributed systems used by multiple games and partner teams. You will work on ambiguous technical problems, make long-term architectural decisions, and influence how new capabilities are built and adopted across the platform.
This role requires someone who can go beyond implementing individual features

You will work directly with game teams and partner organizations to understand their requirements, identify opportunities to build reusable platform capabilities, and drive solutions from initial design through production launch and ongoing operation.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and build highly scalable, reliable, and secure distributed services supporting game and player experiences.
- Own significant technical areas within Omni, from architecture and design through implementation, launch, and operations.
- Work with game teams to understand their requirements and translate them into reusable platform capabilities rather than game-specific solutions.
- Lead technical designs that span multiple services and engineering teams, including evaluating trade-offs around scalability, availability, consistency, extensibility, and operational complexity.
- Establish APIs, data models, and service boundaries that allow Omni capabilities to evolve as additional games and use cases are onboarded.
- Improve the operational excellence of the platform through better observability, automated recovery, deployment safety, capacity planning, and operational tooling.
- Identify architectural and technical debt that could limit the long-term growth of the platform and drive investments to address it.
- Provide technical leadership to other engineers through design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and raising the engineering bar across the team.
- Partner with product, game studios, and other engineering teams to define technical roadmaps and influence longer-term platform direction.
- Take ownership during production issues, identify systemic root causes, and drive engineering improvements that prevent recurrence.
