Role Overview

The Control Systems Engineer II is responsible for supporting the development of engineering designs, performing engineering reviews, and assisting in the configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of control systems that meet code, contract, and schedule requirements for Mitsubishi Power projects in the Americas. Additional responsibilities include customer training and both remote and on-site technical support.ย The role primarily focuses on control systems for large frame industrial gas turbines in simple cycle and/or combined cycle operation with steam turbines. Scope may expand to include other plant control systems as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Design and review new design concepts and assist in the development of new control systems.
  • Maintain and modify existing control systems.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, operations engineers, purchasers, sales & marketing, and other internal stakeholders to support project execution.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors, project management and other relevant authorities within cost and time-constrained environments.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with the health and safety regulations and quality standards of the country in which work is undertaken.
  • Development of RFQ's for purchasing equipment.
  • Configure Mitsubishi Control System HMI and Database
  • Support control panel design, documentation, and fabrication activities under direction, ensuring alignment with project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Support development, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of control system logic and HMI applications under direction of senior engineers.
  • Manufacturing support and inspection of control systems including Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)
  • Support resolution of customer comments on drawings and documentation.
  • Support Field Operations in performing on-site installation of Mitsubishi control systems.
    • Provide start-up commissioning, operations and/or troubleshooting support for equipment failures and determine root cause analysis and implement solutions.
    • Prepare and submit accurate reports regarding conditions, required actions and obtained results.
  • Overnight travel (at least 10%) by land and/or air.
  • Perform Classroom & OJT training of Mitsubishi Control system.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from four-year college or university; and at least three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in specific control disciplines such as advanced process control (APC), distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), OPC/Modbus and other forms of industry known communications and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) as applicable to power plants.
  • Basic to working knowledge of industrial networking and computer systems (TCP/IP, subnets, managed switches, firewalls, segmentation, VLANs), with ability to support configuration and troubleshooting under guidance.
  • Hands-on experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) such as DIASYS Netmation, Ovation, DeltaV, 800xA, T3000 or equivalent PLC/DCS platforms, supporting configuration, testing, and issue resolution with supervision.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus (RTU/TCP), OPC DA/UA, and time synchronization (NTP/PTP), with ability to apply them in standard use cases.
  • Exposure to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of industrial control systems.
  • Accurately reads and interprets electrical and control system schematics (power, control, and I/O wiring), identifies device functions and signal flow across multi-sheet drawings, and applies standards to support troubleshooting and design validation.
  • Familiar with USA/International codes and standards such as UL 508A, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, CSA C22.2 / SPE-1000, IEC 60204-1, and NEMA, etc. with guidance required for application.
  • Experience supporting control system and panel design tasks, including equipment selection, panel layout, and I/O assignment, under direction. Basic understanding of wiring practices, grounding, and industrial power distribution.
  • Exposure to electrical design tools such as EPLAN Electric P8 and EPLAN Pro Panel, AutoCAD Electrical, SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic or equivalent CAD tool with ability to modify existing drawings and assist in new designs.ย 
  • Basic understanding of power plant processes, including gas turbines and combined cycle operations.
  • Experience supporting control logic development for Gas Turbine, Combined Cycle, and Balance of Plant systems, including implementation of analog loops and digital controls using Function Block Diagram.
  • Exposure to control narratives, SAMA diagrams, Cause & Effect matrices, and interlock logic, with ability to interpret and assist in development.
  • Awareness of version control and change management practices for control logic.
  • Exposure to HMI graphic creation tools and basic understanding of High-Performance HMI concepts per ISA-101.
  • Awareness of alarm management concepts per ISA-18.2.
  • Basic awareness of industrial control system cybersecurity standards such as NERC CIP and IEC 62443.
