What are contracted custodians?

Contracted custodians are cleaning and maintenance professionals who are employed by a third-party company rather than directly by the facility where they work. They are responsible for keeping buildings such as offices, schools, or public spaces clean, organized, and safe. Their duties typically include sweeping, mopping, trash removal, restroom sanitation, and sometimes minor repairs. Contracted custodians may work for specialized janitorial firms and can be assigned to multiple locations based on the needs of their employer. This arrangement allows organizations to outsource their cleaning and maintenance needs for efficiency and cost savings.

To thrive as a Contracted Custodian, you need a solid understanding of cleaning techniques, facility maintenance, and basic safety procedures, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, chemical handling, and safety data sheets (SDS) is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and strong time management are valuable soft skills in this position. These skills ensure that facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming, meeting both client expectations and regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges faced by Contracted Custodians when working at multiple client sites?

Balancing multiple assignments can be challenging, especially when travel between locations is required or when sites have varying supply inventories. Good communication with supervisors and flexibility are essential for handling last-minute changes and ensuring consistent service quality across all locations.
