Job description

FMS Aerospace is seeking a skilled Technical Writer for our Huntsville location to support a various contract we have been awarded, as well as contracts we are pursuing. The ideal candidate will have a background in technical writing and be a main point person specifically for the organization, formatting, & technical data collection to produce deliverable documents to the customer within defined parameters that adhere to schedule. This role is crucial for ensuring that all technical documentation is clear, accurate, and compliant with industry standards, ultimately contributing to the success of the program(s) being supported in the Government Contracting (GovCon) industry.
Job Description / Responsibilities
  • Create and Maintain Documentation: Develop, review, and revise technical documents, including manuals, reports, specifications, and procedures.
  • CDRLs and DIDs Management: Prepare and manage CDRLs and DIDs, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and industry standards and established formatting and criteria.
  • Collaborate with Engineers: Work closely with aerospace engineers and other technical staff to gather information and translate complex technical data into clear, concise documents.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and adheres to regulatory and industry standards and established formatting and criteria.
  • Visual Aids: Create diagrams, charts, data tables, flow charts, and other visual aids to enhance the understanding of technical information gathered.
  • Document Control: Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation, managing updates and revisions as needed.
  • Compliance: Ensure all technical documents comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Possible support and assistance with proposal writing as well, as requested by your manager.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in English, Technical Writing, or other related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years with experience in technical writing
  • Strong technical writing & editing skills
  • Excellent communication & collaboration abilities
  • Attention to detail & strong organization skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work proficiently with remote employees
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in English (written and spoken)
  • Must be U.S. citizen
  • Must currently possess or be able to receive DoD Secret clearance, if required

Relevant Experience / Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards, regulations, & vernacular is a plus
  • DoD or Military experience is a plus
  • Developing and writing proposals is strongly preferred
  • CDRLs & DIDs experience is preferred
  • Strong networking skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Projects is a plus
