Job description

Seeking experienced Fiber Optic and Low Voltage Technicians to join our growing field team. This is a traveling position supporting commercial telecommunications, fiber optic, and low voltage installation projects.

We are building a dependable team, not simply filling a temporary position. The right candidate will be hardworking, honest, safety conscious, willing to learn, and prepared to help the company successfully complete projects from mobilization through final closeout.

Some projects will be located in the San Diego area or surrounding area, but most assignments will require travel throughout California. Occasional out of state travel may also be required. We are looking for dependable individuals who take pride in their work, communicate well, follow direction, and are willing to work as part of a professional field team.

Candidates should have approximately 4 to 5 years of relevant low voltage construction experience and practical experience pulling, routing, protecting, and installing fiber optic cable.

Primary Responsibilities

• Pull and install fiber optic and low voltage cabling through conduit, innerduct, underground pathways, vaults, manholes, equipment shelters, and commercial buildings

• Route, dress, secure, label, and protect fiber optic cable in accordance with project requirements

• Maintain proper pulling tension and fiber bend radius throughout installation

• Assist with fiber testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and project closeout

• Install support hardware, pathway components, grounding materials, ladder rack, cable management, and related low voltage equipment

• Read and follow construction plans, pathway drawings, site layouts, and written scopes of work

• Complete daily project reports, photographs, cable documentation, and material tracking when required

• Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a safe and professional condition

• Follow company safety requirements and all applicable job site procedures

• Communicate clearly with supervisors, project managers, customers, and other trades

• Travel for multiple days or weeks at a time when required by the project schedule

Minimum Qualifications

• Approximately 4 to 5 years of low voltage, telecommunications, structured cabling, or related construction experience

• Hands on experience pulling and installing fiber optic cable

• Understanding of fiber handling, pulling methods, cable protection, bend radius, and pathway requirements

• Ability to work in underground vaults, equipment shelters, commercial buildings, and outdoor construction environments

• Ability to perform physical construction work, including lifting, climbing, bending, pulling cable, and working outdoors

• Willingness and ability to travel throughout California and occasionally out of state

• Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and the ability to work effectively with a field crew

• Ability to follow instructions while also recognizing and communicating field conditions or potential problems

• Professional attitude and respect for customers, coworkers, and project locations

Preferred Qualifications

• Fiber optic termination, splicing, testing, or OTDR experience

• Experience with large count or ribbon fiber optic cable

• Experience working in underground manholes, telecommunications vaults, and equipment shelters

• Experience installing ladder rack, innerduct, grounding, cable supports, and telecommunications equipment

• OSHA 10, CPR, first aid, manufacturer training, or fiber optic certifications

• Experience completing daily field reports and photographic documentation

Transportation and Driving Requirements

Company transportation may be available depending on the assignment, the applicant’s qualifications, and the applicant’s ability to meet the driving eligibility requirements for operating a company vehicle.

Candidates may also be considered for assignments using an approved personal vehicle when appropriate. Employees using a personal vehicle for work related travel must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance meeting company requirements.

Driving eligibility will be evaluated only when driving is an essential responsibility of the assigned position.

Travel Requirements

This is a traveling position. Candidates must be able to travel throughout California and occasionally to projects in other states. Travel duration will vary depending on the project and may include overnight stays and extended assignments.

Specific travel arrangements, lodging, transportation, and reimbursement policies will be discussed during the hiring process.
