What you'll be doing:
As a Full Stack Engineer, you'll design, develop, and maintain modern web applications that support mission-critical initiatives for the Department of Veterans Affairs. You'll work across the full technology stack to build scalable, secure, and user-centered solutions while collaborating closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and government stakeholders in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack web applications and APIs.
  • Build responsive, accessible, and reusable user interface components using modern front-end frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain secure backend services, business logic, and RESTful APIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and user requirements into technical solutions.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevSecOps best practices.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Ensure applications comply with federal accessibility, security, and quality standards.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to development processes and application architecture.

What you'll bring:4+ years of experience in full stack development
  • Strong experience with JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and REST APIs
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and Git workflows
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices and web standards (WCAG, Section 508)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in Agile environments
  • Bonus Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or federal agencies
  • Familiarity with JSON Schema Form libraries (e.g., react-jsonschema-form)
  • Knowledge of VA.gov architecture and building forms on VA.gov
  • Experience with automated testing and 508 scanning tools (e.g., Axe, pa11y)

Requirements:
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to work domestically
  • Must be able to attain low-level security clearance

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree
