Job description

SOURCING SPECIALIST, CAPEX (STARLINK)

At SpaceX we're leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world's largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system - thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential global impact and are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink's utility for communities and businesses around the world.

This role will enable the production of our customer-facing products, while interfacing closely with key internal stakeholders. We are looking for individuals who can think outside the box to achieve company objectives regarding value and partnerships with our suppliers. Our organization moves quickly, and you must too. SpaceX has the unique ability and desire to influence and shape suppliers to be better with us as we challenge our supply chain on cost, quality and delivery. This individual will support capital and consumables purchases for the Starlink program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Place purchase orders and resolve blocked invoices related to assigned category
  • Forecast demand, evaluate capacity, and manage supply signals to adjust incoming material
  • Track supplier performance on cost, on-time delivery, quality, and other metrics
  • Utilize negotiations to maximize value and cost savings benefit while lowering risk
  • Create sourcing strategies for assigned category (including Equipment, Services, MRO, and custom parts to reduce risk and meet targets for the supply chain department including, but not limited to, payment terms, cash targets, continuity of supply, and cost savings
  • Solve complex, open-ended problems with an emphasis on speed and efficiency
  • Develop a preferred supplier network and leverage it to minimize cost and lead time
  • Perform onsite reviews of vendor capabilities
  • Responsible for authoring of contract documents with the legal department
  • Management of contracts ensuring performance of the supplier to contract obligations
  • Understand interrelationships between contracts and terms while applying creativity and sound business reasoning to interpret application of contract to business needs
  • Maximize value and cost savings through direct negotiations as well as cost modeling (i.e. Total Cost of Ownership, Should-Cost, etc.)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; OR 3+ years of experience working in one or more of the following in lieu of a degree:
    • Engineering
    • Purchasing
    • Contract negotiation
    • Material or production planning
    • Operations or supply chain management
    • Material cost control
    • Master production scheduling

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years experience with capital expenditure purchasing
  • Experience with purchasing for more than one category
  • Extensive project management and organizational skills
  • Experience managing large scale capital projects
  • Remarkable problem-solving skills with a bias for speed
  • Quick learner and ability to prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Ability to conduct all activities with the highest degree of integrity
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel and communicate outside of work hours - up to 20% work week travel may be required, including international travel
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekend when needed to meet critical deadlines
  • This position is based in Redmond, WA and requires being onsite              

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Level 1: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00
Level 2: $100,000.00 - $140,000.00

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Employees in Washington State accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
