Position Summary

The AVP I, Security is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational execution, and institutional advancement of the organization’s physical security function. This role serves as the principal architect and steward of a comprehensive, multi-site physical security program (headquarters and backup data center) that aligns with enterprise risk management objectives and applicable regulatory expectations. This role will oversee policy development, security technology infrastructure, personnel management, audit readiness, and training strategy. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional judgment, integrity, and discretion, with a capacity to operate independently in areas requiring significant subject matter expertise and executive-level communication.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of an enterprise-wide physical security program, ensuring alignment with the organization’s operational, and regulatory risk posture
• Serve as the subject matter expert and internal consultant on physical security risk mitigation strategies, standards, and emerging threats
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support as needed. This includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
• Develop and formalize institutional policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures that govern physical security operations across all business units
• Conduct formal threat assessments based on internal complaints, behavioral indicators, and reported incidents
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and serve as the primary liaison to local law enforcement when credible threats are identified, ensuring timely and coordinated response
• Provide oversight for the organization's emerging executive protection capabilities, including coordination with external partners to support privacy and security measures appropriate to executive leadership
• Provide direct supervision and performance oversight for in-house security staff as well as contract security team consisting of approximately twelve (12) contract security personnel
• Design and implement enterprise-wide training programs covering physical security awareness, emergency response, active threat mitigation, workplace violence prevention, and life safety (e.g., CPR, first aid)
• Serve as the primary liaison for physical security during internal audits, external examinations, and compliance reviews

Position Requirements

• A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in a security related field
• A minimum of five (5) years in leadership capacity managing a comprehensive physical security program within a regulated or complex institutional environment
• Proficiency with physical security systems and platforms, including video surveillance, electronic access control, and biometric technologies preferred
• Superior written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to influence, educate, and lead at all organizational levels
• Bachelor’s degree required in criminal justice, security management, public administration, or a related field. Will accept work experience in lieu of degree.
• Board certification such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) strongly preferred
