Contract robot programming professionals often encounter challenges such as adapting to different clients' proprietary systems, quickly learning new programming environments, and troubleshooting unexpected integration issues on-site. Projects may involve working with various robot brands, each with unique programming languages and safety protocols, which requires flexibility and ongoing learning. Additionally, tight deadlines and the need to coordinate closely with engineering teams and operators can add complexity, making strong communication and problem-solving skills essential for success.

What is contract robot programming?

Contract robot programming refers to hiring specialized professionals or firms on a contractual basis to design, write, and implement software that controls robotic systems. These programmers typically work on industrial robots used in manufacturing, automation, or other specialized applications. They may be responsible for programming robots to perform specific tasks, optimizing performance, and ensuring safety standards are met. Contract work allows companies to access expert skills for short-term projects without committing to full-time hires.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract robot programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Robot Programmer, you need expertise in robotics programming languages (such as RAPID, KRL, or FANUC TP), automation systems, and a strong background in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with industrial robot controllers, PLCs, simulation software, and certifications like FANUC Certified Robot Operator or Siemens PLC are often required. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication set standout programmers apart when collaborating with clients and troubleshooting in diverse environments. These skills ensure efficient, safe, and customized automation solutions that meet client specifications and industry standards.

Job description

Slip Robotics is a B2B Robotics-as-a-Service company deploying autonomous loading and unloading robots at warehouse and fulfillment sites across North America. Our customers include some of the largest shippers and 3PLs in the industry. We build the robots, we deploy them, and we keep them running - and we're scaling fast.

The Head of Sales Solutions Engineering sits at the intersection of Sales, Account Management, and Product/Operations, and leads a team engaged from the earliest discovery and qualification conversations through post-sale deployment and account health monitoring. This team ensures every solution proposed to a prospect is both operationally viable for the customer's environment and profitably deliverable by Slip.

Responsibilities:

  • Join Account Executives in discovery and qualification calls from the earliest stages of an opportunity, helping shape deal strategy and technical positioning rather than only reviewing proposals after the fact.
  • Translate customer site conditions (dock layout, trailer mix, throughput volume, staffing model) into validated SlipBot/SlipLift configurations and ROI models.
  • Review and validate Statements of Work and deployment scopes before contract execution to prevent commitments the configuration can't support.
  • Conduct on-site or virtual technical feasibility assessments ahead of proposal finalization.
  • Serve as the technical bridge between Sales, Account Management, and Product/Engineering during and after deployment.
  • Support Account Management with technical input on renewal and expansion conversations, using deployment performance data to flag risk or upsell opportunity early.
  • Document configuration standards and sizing logic into reusable playbooks for the revenue organization.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in a customer-facing technical role (applications engineering, solutions engineering, systems engineering, or field engineering), ideally in industrial automation, robotics, material handling, or warehouse/logistics technology.
  • Genuine sales acumen: comfort driving early-stage discovery and qualification conversations, reading buying signals, and advancing a deal - not just validating one already in motion.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate physical/operational constraints into technical proposals that both the customer and Slip's delivery team can execute against.
  • Comfort owning both pre-sale technical validation and post-sale accountability.
  • Working knowledge of operations across the industries that Slip serves.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, credible with both operations-floor stakeholders and executive buyers.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Stock Option Plan

Slip Robotics is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate candidates on the merits of their experience and their fit for the role. We welcome applicants from every background.
