Position Summary

The Contract RN provides clinical oversight and nursing services for individuals enrolled in the HCS and TxHmL programs in accordance with Texas Administrative Code (TAC), HHSC regulations, and Bay Area Rehabilitation Center (BARC) policies. The RN ensures that medical, medication, and health-related supports are delivered safely, appropriately, and in compliance with all regulatory standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Oversight

  • Provide nursing assessments for individuals in HCS and TxHmL programs.
  • Review and monitor individuals’ medical conditions, medications, and health supports.
  • Participate in the development and review of Person-Directed Plans (PDP) and Implementation Plans as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with TAC, HHSC, and program requirements.

Medication and Health Services

  • Conduct nursing assessments related to medication administration and health status.
  • Review Medication Administration Records (MARs) for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide guidance to staff and host home providers on medication and health-related supports.
  • Monitor for medication errors and ensure proper follow-up and documentation.

Training and Support

  • Provide or coordinate required nursing-related trainings for staff and host home providers, including:
    • Medication administration
    • Health and safety practices
    • Specialized medical procedures (if applicable)
  • Offer consultation to staff regarding health-related concerns.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Complete all required nursing documentation in accordance with HHSC and TAC rules.
  • Review incident reports involving medical or medication issues.
  • Participate in internal audits and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain current licensure and required credentials.

Survey and Audit Support

  • Be available during HHSC surveys, audits, and desk reviews.
  • Assist with the preparation of clinical records and documentation.
  • Respond to surveyor questions related to nursing services and medical support.
  • Provide corrective action guidance when needed.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Minimum of one (1) year nursing experience (experience with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred).
  • Knowledge of HCS and/or TxHmL program requirements preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as a contractor.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.

Required Credentials

  • Active Texas RN license.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Proof of professional liability insurance (if required by contract).

Work Schedule

  • Approximately 80 hours per month.
  • Flexible schedule based on program needs.
  • Must be available during HHSC surveys, audits, and compliance reviews.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel to host homes and program sites.
  • Ability to review records, conduct assessments, and provide training as required.

Contract Terms

  • Independent contractor status.
  • Hourly or monthly contract rate as agreed upon.
  • No employee benefits provided.
