Job description

MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an Electronic Component Engineer on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. In this role, you will serve as a Team Lead within a group of more than 50 Electronics and Electrical Engineers, reporting to the Electronics and Electrical Section Manager. You will provide Electrical, Electronic, and Electromagnetic (EEE) parts engineering support to NASA GFE Flight Projects and NASA Programs, helping ensure that the parts flying on NASA's human spaceflight hardware meet the reliability and performance demands of deep space exploration.A Day in the LifeYour responsibilities will include leading a team of Electronic Component Engineers supporting several NASA projects and programs. You will evaluate proposed EEE parts lists against each project's hardware criticality and environments, and report on the manufacturers, materials, construction, usage (including environmental and electrical de-rating), and overall reliability of selected parts to the EEE Parts Control Board (PCB). You will recommend replacement EEE parts, assist in EEE parts failure investigations, and review military and industry EEE parts specifications, standards, and studies for application to NASA programs. A core part of the role is assisting in the development of EEE part qualification plans, project-specific screening requirements, and Non-Standard Part Approval Requests (NSPARs), as well as supporting Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA) efforts as a condition of part approval. You will also support project teams in sourcing passive components (resistors, capacitors, transformers, etc.) and active components (ICs, transistors, diodes), develop part specifications and test procedures for space-level parts, and provide technical assistance to contracted test labs, part manufacturers, and project teams. You will work in a laboratory environment as required, following standard operating procedures.What We Are Looking ForRequirements:Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a related master's degree preferred, and normally 10–15 years of related experienceBS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school and 10 years of related engineering experiencePrior experience leading a technical teamExperience interfacing with a NASA (or similar government) customer on a regular basis and coordinating team assignments and individual taskingExperience supporting design reviews and product development teamsUnderstanding of component selection, screening, qualification, and derating for use in space flight applicationsExperience supporting project teams in EEE-related activities, including review and generation of procurement specifications and source control drawings (SCDs)Experience assisting in the preparation, analysis, and distribution of NASA Advisories and Government Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) AlertsExperience with part selection, obsolescence review, and electrical part failure investigationProficiency in MS Office programs, particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, and OutlookExcellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environmentPreferences:Knowledge of component failure modes, component reliability, and NASA component specifications and standardsKnowledge of NASA space flight hardware processesUnderstanding of passive components, microcircuits, hybrids, semiconductors, and discrete device fabricationPrior experience with accelerated reliability testing, reliability theory, and component failure analysisKnowledge of EEE parts used in high-reliability military/DoD or space hardware, and associated U.S. military test specifications and standardsExperience developing EEE parts management plans, supporting Destructive Physical Analysis (DPA), and conducting parts failure analysisStrong background in Electronic Engineering, including knowledge of EEE parts, technologies, and manufacturing processesExperience with product development, pre-production activity, and product life cycleSourcing background in the electronics industry, with supply chain experience across electrical technologies and part manufacturers This position has been posted at multiple levels.
