Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) - Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Gilmer

Position Overview:
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is seeking a qualified Pharmacy Technician to provide comprehensive pharmacy support services within the Health Services Department at FCI Gilmer, a federal correctional institution. This position supports the institution's pharmacy operations by assisting with medication preparation, inventory management, patient care activities, and administrative pharmacy functions while maintaining compliance with Bureau of Prisons policies and applicable healthcare standards.
This is an on-site government contract opportunity offering a consistent weekday schedule in a professional correctional healthcare environment.
Position Highlights:
Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) contract opportunity
Full-time, on-site position at FCI Gilmer
Monday-Friday schedule
6:00 AM - 1:30 PM (35 hours/week)
No weekends; federal holidays observed
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist pharmacist with medication preparation and dispensing
  • Order, stock, and maintain pharmacy inventory
  • Prepare unit-dose medications and Pyxis supplies
  • Monitor medication expiration dates
  • Maintain narcotics and syringe inventories
  • Restock emergency carts and automated dispensing systems
  • Perform pharmacy documentation and EMR data entry
  • Schedule patients and complete clerical tasks
  • Participate in quality assurance and pharmacy competency activities
  • Maintain clean and organized pharmacy work areas

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Completed Pharmacy Technician internship
  • Minimum 1 year of Pharmacy Technician experience
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Knowledge of pharmacy procedures, infection control, and medical equipment
  • Strong computer and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Correctional healthcare experience
  • Experience with Pyxis or automated dispensing systems
  • Knowledge of Bureau of Prisons formulary procedures
  • Work Environment
  • Federal correctional healthcare facility
  • Frequent interaction with incarcerated patients
  • Must complete institution security orientation
  • Adhere to BOP, Joint Commission (TJC), and ACA standards
  • Additional Requirements
  • Pass federal credentialing and security clearance requirements
  • Maintain current certifications
  • Comply with employee health screening requirements
  • Professional attire required (khaki and green clothing prohibited)
