What is a contract power plant?

A contract power plant is a power generation facility that is owned or operated under a contractual agreement, typically to supply electricity to a utility or industrial customer for a specified period. These contracts often outline the terms of power generation, delivery, pricing, and maintenance responsibilities. Contract power plants can be independent power producers (IPPs) or public-private partnership projects, and they play a significant role in meeting electricity demand without requiring the buyer to directly own or operate the plant. Such arrangements help ensure stable energy supply and manage financial risks for both parties.
