Job description

Concrete Superintendent – Western Slope / Vail Valley Shaw Construction | Vail, Avon, and surrounding Western Slope projects

Why Work at Shaw? From the day you're hired, we support you in your career — providing new opportunities and allowing you to focus on the unique skills and value you bring to the company. As a member of the Shaw Team, you'll stand out as a world-class construction professional. While we take our work seriously, we promote a fun, safe, supportive, and encouraging work environment, and we support work/life balance and community involvement.

At Shaw, we believe diversity is what makes us unique. We strive daily to create an environment where employees feel supported and welcomed in both our company and the construction industry. That's why in 2024, The Denver Post named Shaw a "Top Work Place" for the fourth time. #WeAreShaw means more than just working here — it represents our diversity, safety culture, and community.

Job Summary Shaw is seeking an experienced Concrete Superintendent to lead self-perform concrete operations on large multifamily and mixed-use projects across the Vail Valley and Western Slope, including Vail and Avon. This role oversees mobilization, formwork and lift design coordination, deliveries and logistics, staffing/labor/subcontractor/vendor management, quality control, scheduling, documentation, and closeout — ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to Shaw's quality standard. Strong vertical concrete experience and hands-on knowledge of post-tension systems are required for this role given the scope of upcoming mountain-market projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the concrete process — deliveries, formwork, reinforcing, bracing, decking, post-tension, embeds/sleeves, batch supply, and finishing — ensuring adherence to contract documents and building codes
  • Proficient knowledge of concrete scopes, methods, and techniques for vertical/high-rise concrete construction
  • Read, understand, and follow construction documents across all disciplines, including PT shop drawings and stressing sequences
  • Perform concrete and building layout; verify field dimensions
  • Manage crew scheduling and sequencing; collaborate with all trades and Shaw's main project scheduling process
  • Monitor progress against milestone schedule; identify and resolve delays
  • Direct labor production and efficiency; manage site logistics and material/equipment deliveries
  • Inspect concrete work daily for code and spec compliance, including PT cable/anchor installation and stressing verification
  • Enforce jobsite safety protocols and PPE compliance; run daily huddles and safety meetings
  • Document project activity: submittals/shop drawings, RFIs, daily reports, time cards, safety inspections, schedule updates, QA/QC inspections
  • Collaborate with the Self-Perform Project Manager on schedule, budget, labor/material/equipment forecasting, and reporting
  • Coordinate with the equipment manager for Shaw equipment rental and material storage
  • Train and mentor crew members and Shaw team members; resolve crew conflicts and performance issues

Education/Experience

  • 10 years of building construction experience required
  • 5+ years of concrete experience required, with demonstrated vertical and post-tension project experience
  • Mountain/resort market project experience a plus, but not required

Skills Required

  • Strong carpentry and layout skills
  • Leadership and thorough knowledge of construction practices, safety regulations, and current building codes
  • Working knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Procore, and Autodesk
  • Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with clear verbal and written communication

Physical Demands & Work Environment Ability to climb permanent/temporary stairs and ladders, use personnel hoists, and navigate active construction areas. Requires close/peripheral vision and depth perception. Regular use of hands for tools and equipment; ability to sit, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, weather, and moderate-to-loud noise on active jobsites.

Compensation Pay Type: Salary (Exempt) Pay Range: $100,000–$130,000 annually, DOE Additional: Bonus commensurate with individual/company performance; housing assistance available, evaluated individually based on each candidate's situation

Benefits PTO, paid holidays, 401(k) with company match, medical/dental/vision, wellness program, EAP, HSA with company contribution, FSA options, company-paid life/AD&D (plus voluntary options), company-paid long-term disability, and voluntary short-term disability/critical illness/hospital indemnity/accident insurance.

Shaw Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
