Job description

At Associated Electric Cooperative, we're committed to providing reliable energy to the communities we serve with passion and precision. We're a tight-knit team dedicated to keeping the lights on and the energy flowing smoothly across our expansive network!

From technical to operational to professional disciplines, our team brings a wide variety of skills, talents, and expertise to the table. We believe in both dedicating ourselves to excellence and investing in your growth.

Shape the future of energy portfolio management! As a Fuel Contract Manager, you'll lead contracting negotiations and contracting strategies with a strong focus on natural gas markets. You'll serve as the commercial lead of fuel contracts and commercial strategy rather than a people leader. You'll play a key role in securing long-term fuel supply, optimizing costs, and collaborating across teams to support our energy portfolio.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and execute natural gas contracting strategies for long-term supply and transportation agreements to new and existing generation resources.
  • Negotiate and manage structured fuel and supply contracts for power, gas, coal, and renewables.
  • Assess market trends and commercial opportunities to ensure cost-effective, reliable energy and fuel supply solutions.
  • Oversee pipeline and rail transportation, railcar lease agreements and wind forecasting services.
  • Provide expert analysis to support key decision-making in portfolio management.

What You'll Need:

  • Typically, 8-15 years of experience in natural gas markets, fuel contracting (natural gas, coal), or power supply contracts, though strong candidates with 3 to 5 years of experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong knowledge of natural gas supply chains, transportation agreements, and pipeline tariffs.
  • Expertise in contract negotiation, counterparty relationship management, and cost optimization.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects, drive strategic initiatives, and develop executive-level decision support materials.

Preferred:

  • Experience with drafting contract language for wholesale power agreements, coal supply, or rail transportation.
  • Familiarity with natural gas scheduling, power generation development, and transmission interconnection.

This is your opportunity to lead energy strategy, make an impact, and shape the future of energy portfolio management.

What Associated provides:

  • We are committed to rewarding talent with top pay. Your efforts will be recognized with a total compensation package that reflects your experience and contributions.
  • Plan for your future with confidence! We offer a robust 401(k) program with a generous employer match to help you build the financial future you deserve.
  • We know how important work-life integration is. Recharge with PTO and enjoy paid holidays, ensuring you have time to unwind and pursue your passions outside of work.
  • Your health matters to us! Stay covered beginning on your first day of employment with our premier healthcare plan that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family.

At Associated Electric Cooperative, all of our 700+ employees across MO/AR/OK territory play a crucial role in powering our mission! Whether you're an experienced professional or just starting your career, you'll find endless opportunities for career development here. Join us in an environment where your contribution is valued, and your career can thrive as we work together to keep the lights on!
