Contract podiatrists often work in diverse clinical settings, which can present challenges such as quickly learning new electronic health record systems, adapting to varied patient populations, and integrating into established care teams. Successful contract podiatrists proactively familiarize themselves with each clinic's protocols and maintain clear documentation to ensure continuity of care across assignments.

What is a contract podiatrist?

A contract podiatrist is a licensed foot and ankle specialist who provides podiatric medical care on a contractual basis, rather than as a permanent staff member. They may work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, or private practices, often filling temporary roles or handling overflow patients. Contract podiatrists perform exams, diagnose conditions, treat injuries and diseases of the feet and lower limbs, and may perform minor surgical procedures. This arrangement offers flexibility for both the healthcare facility and the podiatrist.
