The Senior Underwriting Consultant will analyze Financial Protection Products- Group Life, Disability and Supplemental Health- plan characteristics and assess risk. They will also utilize underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies. The Senior Underwriting Consultant is responsible for the build, evaluation and recommendation of alternative pricing and plan design options based on economic analysis and trends. Senior Underwriting Consultant will be responsible for protecting profit while balancing sales growth pressure.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial modeling for reserve calculation, budget calculation, and other ongoing reviews that directly aligns with client strategies
  • Risk evaluation skills of Life, LTD, STD and supplemental health products on a manual and experience rated basis
  • Validate - Evaluate renewals and new business request for proposals for accuracy for all size groups
  • Deliver competitive and consultative proposals and renewal analysis to obtain and persist the inforce block
  • Conduct competitive analysis of all coverage lines and present financial and contractual findings
  • Serves as a functional subject matter expert, providing trusted guidance and acting as a key resource to senior leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience in group insurance underwriting for any variety of products: Group Life, Long Term Disability (LTD), Short Term Disability (STD), and Supplemental Health for Voluntary and Employer Paid plan designs
  • Large case underwriting experience incorporating experience in development of pricing
  • Experience in coordinating in development of training and mentoring others
  • Experience in industry and marketplace trends
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word and Excel)
  • Proven mastery of products including product and contract provisions, plan designs, pricing and various funding arrangements
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with internal and external partners to develop appropriate case strategies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience contributing to process improvements, automation, or standardization initiatives
  • Proven ability to communicate underwriting rationale to business leaders, sales, and actuarial partners
  • Proven involvement in underwriting guidelines development or governance
  • Proven track record of influencing decisions in ambiguous or high-stakes situations

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
