Monson Savings Bank is seeking a Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter to join our Residential Lending team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled, experienced underwriting professional to play a key role in our mortgage lending process and contribute to the success of a respected community bank.

Position Overview

The SR. Mortgage Loan Underwriter underwrites mortgage and consumer applications received by the Bank. Reviews and evaluates application information and makes approval/denial recommendations or decisions; approving loans within established lending limits and based on Bank and secondary market guidelines. May provide training and guidance to Jr. Mortgage Loan Underwriter. Hybrid remote work option available upon completion of training and Introductory period. Full remote work option not available.      

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite residential mortgage and consumer loan applications in accordance with Bank, FNMA, MassHousing, and regulatory guidelines
  • Make sound approval and denial decisions within established lending authority
  • Review appraisals, title work, mortgage insurance, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Support loan originators and processors by providing guidance that helps create a smooth borrower experience
  • Manage secondary market processing, including commitments, loan delivery, pricing, and remittances
  • Assist with staff training and serve as a resource and mentor for junior underwriter
  • Participate in audits, quality control reviews, and regulatory examinations
  • Help improve underwriting procedures and contribute innovative ideas that drive efficiency and  excellence

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in business or related field and minimum three years mortgage loan underwriting experience with conventional guidelines, Non-QM, Construction and Mass Housing loans; or equivalent combination of education and experience. FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) credential preferred but not required.

  • Customer service-oriented professional with strong knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines and lending regulations
  • Strong organizational skills with high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time and multiple responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated report writing skills
  • Interacts with others in an effective and professional manner, with a team approach to work responsibilities

Salary Range: $70,000 - $83,000
