This role involves dual responsibility for artistic direction and the administrative oversight of three annual performances. The Director is responsible for delivering a high-quality, educationally enriching musical experience while mentoring students in all facets of performance and music management, specifically within the realms of Ensemble Music, Digital Music Production, Hip Hop, and Guitar.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diverse Music Instruction: Lead and instruct students in a comprehensive curriculum including traditional Ensemble Music, Digital Music Production, Hip Hop, and Guitar.
- Rehearsal and Logistics Management: Schedule and lead rehearsals, manage performance timelines, and coordinate logistics for off-site events or festivals.
- Program Administration: Personally manage or supervise non-artistic elements, including sheet music library organization, instrument inventory maintenance, and management of digital production assets.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the program budget, including the allocation of funds for music scores, digital software/equipment, instrument repairs, and guest clinician fees.
- Student Mentorship: Instruct and mentor students in music theory, ensemble etiquette, and technical proficiency across multiple genres, ensuring growth for musicians of all skill levels.
- Safety and Facility Management: Ensure a safe environment during all rehearsals and performances, including the proper storage and transport of heavy equipment and digital gear.
- Strategic Communication: Maintain consistent communication with administration, parents, and booster organizations to promote program growth.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Dual Expertise: Deep knowledge of instrumental conducting, digital music platforms, and hands-on management of music program operations (logistics, equipment, and marketing).
- Organizational Mastery: Exceptional skills in coordinating complex schedules that minimize conflicts with other high school activities.
- Artistic Vision: Ability to select repertoire-ranging from traditional band music to contemporary Hip Hop and Guitar pieces-that is engaging and appropriate for the school and community.
- Instructional Scaffolding: Ability to teach students with varying experience levels, providing clear guidance on musical terminology, production techniques, and performance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree. Official transcripts are required for formal employment.
- Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Music (500/1500), Instrumental Music (505/1505), Vocal Music (510/1510 or 1511), or General Music (515/1515).
- Student Focus: Proven experience working specifically with minors/young adults in a musical setting.
- Clearance: Successful clearance of a background check and fingerprinting.
- Physical Capacity: Ability to engage in physical tasks such as moving instruments, setting up chairs/stands, and standing for extended periods.
- Schedule: Willingness to commit to a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends for performances and dress rehearsals.

- Work is performed in various environments, including music rooms and auditoriums. The atmosphere is high-energy, requiring the Director to manage students with varying needs and provide necessary accommodations.
