Contract Motion Design information

What is a contract motion designer?

A contract motion designer is a professional who creates animated graphics and visual effects for various media, such as videos, advertisements, and digital content, typically on a freelance or temporary basis. They work with clients or agencies on specific projects, bringing stories and concepts to life through motion graphics. Unlike full-time employees, contract motion designers are hired for set durations or projects, allowing for flexibility and exposure to diverse industries. Their skills often include proficiency in software like After Effects, Cinema 4D, and Adobe Creative Suite.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract motion designer?

To thrive as a Contract Motion Designer, you need expertise in animation principles, graphic design, and proficiency with software like Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Cinema 4D, often backed by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with project management tools, industry-standard plugins, and sometimes certifications in motion graphics software are typically expected. Strong communication, creativity, and the ability to adapt quickly to client feedback and shifting project requirements set top performers apart. These skills ensure high-quality, on-brand visual content is delivered efficiently, meeting client expectations and project deadlines.

What are some common challenges faced by contract motion designers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Contract motion designers often face challenges such as tight deadlines, varying client expectations, and the need to quickly adapt to different brand styles. Effectively managing these challenges involves maintaining clear communication with clients, setting realistic timelines, and building a flexible workflow. Additionally, staying organized with robust project management tools and continuously updating your design skills can help ensure you deliver high-quality work on schedule while meeting diverse client needs.

What is the difference between Contract Motion Design vs Freelance Motion Designer?

Contract Motion Design involves working temporarily for a company or agency, often with a fixed project scope. Freelance Motion Designers operate independently, managing multiple clients. Both roles require strong motion design skills, but contract roles are usually more structured with defined employment terms, while freelance roles offer more flexibility but require self-management.

Are contract motion designers in demand?

Contract motion designers are in steady demand due to the growth of digital media, advertising, and entertainment industries that require animated content. Skills in software like Adobe After Effects and a strong portfolio can improve job prospects, especially for freelance or project-based roles. The demand varies by industry trends and regional opportunities but remains generally strong for qualified professionals.

How much money do contract motion designers make?

Contract motion designers typically earn between $25 and $75 per hour, depending on experience, skill level, and project complexity. Annual earnings can range from approximately $50,000 to $150,000 for full-time equivalent work, with rates often higher for those with specialized skills in software like After Effects or Cinema 4D.

Is it hard to get a job in contract motion design?

Contract motion design jobs can be competitive and often require a strong portfolio, proficiency in tools like Adobe After Effects, and relevant experience. Building a network and demonstrating a versatile skill set can improve chances of securing such roles.

Job description

About Sesh

Sesh is a modern nicotine platform company and the #1 independent pouch brand in the US. Our mission is to accelerate the end of smoking. We operate a Canadian parent and a US operating company, we make our product through a partner manufacturer, and we sell through distributors and retail. We are growing fast and the finance function is being built as we go. We're looking for a motivated designer who wants to grow in a fast-paced environment while taking ownership of creative that directly impacts marketing performance.

Why Sesh

The mission. We are here to accelerate the end of smoking. Combustion is on its way out and the nicotine molecule is not. We are building the platform for that shift, with dignity, transparency, and consumer choice as the values we hold ourselves to.

Respect runs both ways. Good people have options and we do not pretend otherwise. We ask you to be all in, and you get the same back from everyone around you. Straight answers, real ownership, and a team that cares and carries its share.

We are winning. Nicotine pouches are one of the fastest growing consumer categories in the US and we are the #1 independent brand in it, competing against companies a hundred times our size and taking share.

Equity. This role comes with ownership in the business. Everyone here has it.

Small team, direct access. About 40 people. You will work daily with the VP Finance and regularly with the CEO and the ELT. Nothing you build gets lost in three layers of approval.

Flexible time off and flexible hours. No fixed accrual and no strict 9 to 5. In office four days a week with Friday work from home. We care about output and coverage, not chair time.

We actually use modern tools. Claude is used across the company, not as a pilot. If you are good at putting AI to work, you will get more done here than anywhere with twice the headcount.

Interesting problems. Multi entity, cross border, partner manufacturing, excise tax, distributor and retail channels, a UK launch, and international royalty income. If you want to broaden past a narrow lane, there is more here than most companies our size can offer.

Be prepared for what this is. We move fast, the process is unfinished, and priorities shift. Some weeks will be messy. If you want a clean, mature finance function, this is not it. If you want to build one and have real impact, it is a good seat.

Role Overview

As the Junior Brand & Motion Designer, you will own the execution of paid advertising creative across Meta, X, streaming platforms, and other digital channels. You'll create both static and motion assets, iterate on high-performing campaigns, and help scale creative production while maintaining a premium brand standard.

This role requires someone who can work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and confidently take ownership of assigned campaigns from brief through final delivery. You'll work closely with the Senior Brand Designer, Social Media Director, and Digital Media Buyers while also collaborating with a team of part-time contract designers to multiply output.

Responsibilities

Ad Design

  • Design static and motion advertisements for Meta, X, streaming platforms, display, and other digital channels.
  • Adapt campaign concepts into multiple sizes, formats, and aspect ratios.
  • Create creative variations for A/B testing and ongoing campaign optimization.
  • Prepare final assets according to platform specifications and best practices.

Motion Design

  • Create engaging motion graphics and short-form video content for paid media and social campaigns.
  • Edit product, lifestyle, and promotional footage into polished advertisements.
  • Animate typography, logos, and product visuals while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Deliver optimized assets for various digital platforms.

Creative Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Social Media Director, Digital Media Buyers, and Senior Brand Designer to create assets that align with brand and campaign objectives.
  • Collaborate with part-time contract designers to increase creative output.
  • Help organize project files, templates, and creative assets.
  • Contribute ideas during creative reviews and campaign planning.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of graphic design experience
  • 2+ years of motion design experience
  • Strong portfolio showcasing both static and motion design work.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including:
  • After Effects
  • Premiere Pro
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • Proficiency in Figma
  • Strong understanding of typography, composition, pacing, and visual storytelling.
  • Experience creating assets for digital advertising platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Meta Ads, X Ads, and streaming platform creative specifications.
  • Knowledge of AI creative tools and workflows.
  • Basic photography or video production experience.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Takes ownership of their work and requires minimal day-to-day direction.
  • Produces polished creative with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Balances creativity with performance-driven design.
  • Communicates clearly and collaborates effectively with internal teams and contractors.
  • Is eager to learn, improve, and contribute to the continued growth of the Sesh brand.

Success in This Role

Within your first six months, you'll:

  • Independently manage paid advertising creative across multiple channels.
  • Deliver high-quality static and motion assets on schedule.
  • Become a trusted owner of campaign execution from concept through final delivery.
  • Collaborate effectively with contract designers to keep creative moving efficiently.
  • Help improve the speed, consistency, and quality of Sesh's paid marketing creative.
