Description
Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates who are prepared and excited to provide a 21st century learning environment that effectively addresses the emerging necessity of social emotional supports and blending learning strategies.
  • FTE: 1.0
  • Contract Type: One Year Only
  • Anticipated Start Date: 2026-27 School Year
  • Required Washington State Endorsement(s): Holds certification or is eligible for ESA certification in school psychology in the state of Washington
  • Benefits--Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.
  • Additional benefits may include vacation, sick, personal days, and paid holidays.
  • Most positions have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary schedule, all in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreements as negotiated.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead school personnel in the assessment of student problems related to the learning process and/or school adjustment.
  2. Conduct evaluations and serve as assessment coordinator. Conduct educational, diagnostic assessments and functional behavior assessments on individual students with disabilities or suspected of having disabilities. Write individual and summary reports of diagnostic assessments. Maintain appropriate written records and reports for each child served and/or assessed.
  3. Identify those students with disabilities who meet state and federal education guidelines for special education services for students with disabilities as defined by WAC 392-172A and properly identified according to district procedures.
  4. Make specific recommendations to parents and school staff relating to improvements in student performance and adjustment.
  5. Share and Interpret assessment findings with parents and school staff.
  6. Maintain liaison with agencies and non-school professionals involved with students on an assigned basis.
  7. Keep accurate records and prepare reports and summaries as required.
  8. Supervise school psychologist interns and practicum students on an assigned basis.
  9. Assist staff development and implementation of behavioral and/or academic intervention plans for individual students.
  10. Provide consultation to staff related to the application of psychological principles and best educational practices; i.e., develop appropriate practices, curriculum based assessment, social skills curriculum, and collaborative integrated services.
  11. Counsel parents and students about impacts of disability in individual and group settings on an assigned basis.
  12. Carry out professional job assignments as determined by appropriate coordinator or supervisor of special education.
  13. Serve as a cooperative member of district multi-disciplinary team, assisting in the assessment for determination of eligibility, and the development of instructional and behavioral goals.
  14. Provide training, assistance and consultation to conduct Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA) individually or as a team member to identify the function of the student's behavior and to develop effective positive behavior supports and interventions (BIP). Collect and analyze data to determine the effectiveness of the intervention and modify when appropriate.
  15. Understand and apply the concepts of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and the application of Discrete Trial Training (DTT) as the basis for instructional strategies used in the classroom and school environment.
  16. Participate in continuing education to ensure continued professional growth and awareness.
  17. Maintain professional knowledge and expertise by participating in continuing education to ensure continued growth and awareness;
  18. Attend, participate, and implement district level program requirements of the IDEA and the WAC.
  19. Perform other job-related duties as requested from supervisor.

Qualifications
  1. Holds certification or is eligible for ESA certification in school psychology in the state of Washington.
  2. A master's degree from an accredited institution in school psychology.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the essential requirements within P.L. 101-476 and its application to the provision of appropriate services for disabled students.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents, teachers, administrators, and colleagues in providing direct and indirect services to students with disabilities in a confidential manner.
  5. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  6. Prefer previous successful experience as a school psychologist or in a closely related field within a public school setting.
  7. Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively.
  8. Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly in written or oral form.
  9. Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
  10. Enthusiastic and displays an overall optimism in motivating toward teaching and student learning.
  11. Assesses needs of students, prescribes and implements effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate and current instructional strategies based on best practices.
  12. Conducts self in a professional manner through interactions with students and adults, high expectations for student performance, is compassionate but firm when modeling appropriate behavior, and selects appropriate attire.
  13. Relates positively to students and adults from varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic background, learning styles, and various disabilities.
  14. Maintains a high level of professional expertise and emerging research related to this position.
  15. Hold and maintain state license.

  1. Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  2. Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.

    • School District Employees participate in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) public pension plan. Employees can choose from a lifetime retirement pension plan or a hybrid pension and investment plan that contributes between 5% and 15% of wages to retirement. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
      • Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b) retirement plan through the District's plan manager, OMNI.
