Description

This position will be a Math/Science position and is responsible for providing leadership to educators at the secondary level in the areas of math and/or science, and will serve as the first point of contact for curriculum and instruction support for those contents, while working closely with the other Curriculum Coordinators, Secondary Director and the Chief Academic Officer.

SALARY RANGE: 123,632 - 147,623 - Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar position. Promotion or transfer placements will be determined by percentage of increase and consideration of appropriate experience credit.
Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with other Curriculum Coordinators, school directors, and administrators, to design and deliver proactive and responsive leadership and support for district priorities and initiatives, instructional best practices and pedagogy, and curriculum.
  2. Support and facilitate building administrators and teachers in analyzing student growth data to drive instruction.
  3. Design synchronous and asynchronous professional development for topics that align with district priorities, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Professional Learning Communities (PLC), Cultural Competency, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CCDEI), best practices in pedagogy and curriculum, and educational technology topics.
  4. Facilitate professional development training during the school day as well as in the evening.
  5. Organize the maintenance and distribution of curriculum materials for the schools in your feeder pattern.
  6. As needed, plan and lead the curriculum adoption process, from the formation of the review committee team through the implementation of new curricula.
  7. Work collaboratively as a member of the Curriculum & Instruction team on systems-level projects that may be content agnostic.
  8. Identify program needs to create and implement solutions.
  9. Attend a variety of meetings, conferences, and professional learning events to maintain current knowledge and expertise of educational research, trends, and issues.
  10. Represent Spokane Public Schools on various committees and community events, and foster and maintain relationships with community organizations to provide learning opportunities for students.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in education or related field; a minimum of five years teaching experience, including in elementary setting.
  2. Administrative/Principal credential preferred.
  3. Knowledgeable about research-based pedagogy and instructional best practices.
  4. Demonstrated aptitude for instructional leadership, including deep understanding of best practices in adult learning and experience in successful development and facilitation of professional development for educators.
  5. Ability to facilitate meetings and present information in small and large group settings, as well as in virtual settings.
  6. Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  7. Exhibit high personal motivation/energy and be positive about responsibilities.
  8. Knowledgeable about technology and how to leverage technology tools to enhance instruction.
  9. Knowledge of current educational trends, research, and professional development strategies.
  10. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with diverse groups of students, parents, community stakeholders, and SPS staff.

  1. Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  2. Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.

Employees can choose from a lifetime retirement pension plan or a hybrid pension and investment plan that contributes between 5% and 15% of wages to retirement. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
      • Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b) retirement plan through the District's plan manager, OMNI.
