Construction Transactions & Litigation Associate Attorney

Anchorage, AK | Portland, OR | Seattle, WA

Direct Counsel is seeking a midlevel Construction Transactions & Litigation Associate Attorney with 3+ years of experience to join a nationally recognized law firm’s Real Property Practice Group. The attorney will support a sophisticated construction and design practice handling both transactional matters and litigation involving commercial and public construction projects.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a high volume of construction and design contract transactions as well as construction-related claims and disputes. The ideal candidate will be comfortable drafting and negotiating construction agreements with limited supervision and have experience supporting or handling construction litigation matters.

Position Overview

The Construction Transactions & Litigation Associate Attorney will advise clients on construction and design agreements, contract terms, risk allocation, claims, and dispute resolution. The attorney will work closely with experienced partners and clients on complex matters involving both public and private construction projects.

The successful candidate will bring strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, familiarity with industry-standard construction forms, and experience with construction-related claims or litigation.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate construction and design agreements

  • Advise clients regarding contract terms, project risks, and risk allocation

  • Assist clients with construction-related disputes, claims, and litigation

  • Support dispute resolution proceedings involving construction and design projects

  • Work with both custom and industry-standard construction contract forms

  • Draft and negotiate agreements using AIA, AGC, DBIA, and similar industry-standard forms

  • Assist with public and private construction matters and related claims

  • Manage construction transactions and related matters with limited supervision

  • Collaborate with partners, clients, and other professionals to develop practical, business-focused solutions

  • Provide responsive, high-quality legal counsel and work product across transactional and litigation matters

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • At least 3 years of experience handling construction and design contracts and related litigation

  • Experience at a mid-size or large law firm or in-house legal department preferred

  • Active bar admission in, and residency within, the state where the attorney will be based

  • Strong construction contract drafting and negotiation skills

  • Experience working with AIA, AGC, DBIA, or other industry-standard construction contract forms

  • Experience supporting or handling construction-related claims and litigation

  • Ability to manage construction transactions and related matters with limited supervision

  • Strong client-service orientation and responsiveness

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work product

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with partners, clients, and other team members

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $147,000–$325,000, with actual compensation dependent on factors including education, training, experience, and other job-related considerations.
