Position OverviewUnder supervision, this is an entry-level technical position that obtains field measurements using water quality instruments and collects samples for laboratory analyses. This position requires knowledge of sampling techniques for potable and non-potable waters, fundamental water quality analyses, computer data entry and transfer, and sampling equipment. This position also requires a developing knowledge of water chemistry and analytical laboratory methods. ThispositionissubjecttoalloftherulesoftheTampaBayWater'sLaboratoryWaterQuality QC Manual, as well as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection(FDEP) rules and protocols for collecting representative samples, the Florida Department of Health regulations, and the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference rules for maintaining laboratory certification.
Essential Functions- Understands the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) scheduling system and executes sampling events on a timely basis.
- Creates and edits "Projects" in the LIMS, including contract laboratory orders.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates work assignments with laboratory analytical personnel.
- Effectively communicates in oral and written form.
- Interacts with other Tampa Bay Water departments and member government representatives when necessary to collect samples.
- Calibrates water quality field instruments.
- Performs field tests skillfully and accurately and records results electronically.
- Collects water samples in a manner that obtains the most representative samples.
- Logs in samples.
- Delivers contract laboratory samples, as necessary.
- Checks/updates inventory and orders supplies for the Laboratory's Field Section.
- Conducts maintenance on field sampling and analytical equipment.
- Schedules or performs maintenance/repairs on the Laboratory's field sampling vehicles.
- Performs successful semi-annual Proficiency Testing to maintain certification.
- Complies with all established Laboratory safety and administrative policies and procedures.
- ObservesSafetyPoliciesandProceduresinaccordancewiththeAgency'sSafety Program.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the Tampa Bay Water regional water delivery systems.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of terminology and principles, and the skills/techniques for field measurements/sample collection systems, and the associated laboratory equipment.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of computer software and skills for applications, data entry, and transfer.
- Works effectively with all levels of management and colleagues.
- Demonstrates initiative, mature judgment, customer service orientation, and ability to anticipate needs of the organization.
- Works flexible hours as needed.
- Performs related work as directed.

Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:- High school diploma or GED supplemented with two years of experience collecting samples and/or using water quality field instruments for a laboratory, consulting firm/private entity, or government agency. An appropriate college degree or equivalent training may substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
- Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, as well as a LIMS program.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Physical Abilities: Tasks involve the ability to exert medium physical effort which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects, and materials of medium weight (30-50 pounds). Must be capable of lifting coolers filled with samples and ice. Must have physical abilities to conduct activities in the field. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
