Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Control Systems Engineer opportunity in Johnson City, TN.
Position Overview:
The Control Systems Engineer will support a large-scale industrial construction project by designing, programming, and commissioning control systems for a greenfield process. This role requires extensive experience in Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI development for heavy industrial environments and strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • System Design & Development: Develop control system architectures and industrial network layouts.
  • Programming: Develop, test, and implement code for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/GuardLogix (1756) PLCs using Studio 5000.
  • Safety Systems: Design and implement safety-related control systems using GuardLogix platforms in accordance with functional safety requirements.
  • HMI Development: Specify, configure, and implement FactoryTalk View SE/ME HMI applications for monitoring and control of process systems.
  • Networking: Configure and troubleshoot industrial communications networks including EtherNet/IP and Modbus RTU over RS-485, and OPC-based integrations.
  • Modeling & Simulation: Utilize simulation software to test and validate system behavior and performance prior to implementation.
  • Integration & Commissioning: Integrate and commission third-party equipment including Fire Alarm Systems, Burner Management Systems (BMS), Heat Trace Controllers, and vendor-supplied HMIs.
  • Documentation: Develop control narratives and interlock narratives in collaboration with Process Engineering.
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work closely with electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, civil, structural, and process engineers to ensure integrated system design.
  • Design Support: Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and client meetings.
  • Field Support: Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and assist with installation issues during design, construction, and start-up.
  • Commissioning: Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning activities.
  • Configuration Management: Maintain accurate documentation and revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Standards: Create internal company PLC standards and best practices.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering preferred, will consider experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or leadership to control system designers or junior engineers.
  • 5+ years of Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI design and development in an industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of applicable industry standards and electrical codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and vendor documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within two years.
  • Experience working on large-scale industrial construction or EPC projects.
  • Experience supporting field construction or commissioning activities.
