Position Overview

The Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking several Mid to Senior level Instrumentation & Controls Engineers to join our growing Calgary team!

The ideal candidates will provide I&C technical expertise for the execution and evaluation of power project designs.

You will collaborate with internal teams, external engineers, construction partners, and clients to deliver high-quality, construction-driven engineering solutions. Project assignments range from proposal support and design execution to construction and commissioning.

Depending on experience, the position may operate at a Mid-Level or Senior level, with increasing responsibility for technical leadership, project ownership, and team mentorship.

Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit's construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

Location

This position is based out of Calgary, Alberta with flexible work options. Travel will be required on occasion, including in the US.

Responsibilities

Mid-Level Instrumentation & Controls Engineer
   Serve as a lead on small projects or a key contributor on larger projects.
   Perform design tasks including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
   Apply engineering standards, codes, and Kiewit practices to project work.
   Support SCADA/DCS/PLC system design and implementation.
   Assist with proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies.
   Review vendor submittals and shop drawings; support issue resolution.
   Coordinate with multi-discipline teams, vendors, and construction partners.
   Support equipment selection, bid evaluations, and procurement activities.
   Participate in construction and commissioning support.
   Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.

Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer
   Function as lead I&C engineer on complex or multiple projects.
   Provide technical leadership and oversight for all I&C deliverables.
   Lead SCADA/DCS/PLC system architecture and design strategy.
   Own quality, compliance, and consistency of engineering deliverables
   Lead proposals, cost estimates, and client-facing technical discussions.
   Direct feasibility, planning, and cost studies, making client recommendations.
   Oversee and approve design documents, specifications, and vendor submittals.
   Lead equipment selection, bid evaluations, and contract recommendations.
   Serve as primary I&C interface with clients, vendors, and construction teams.
   Resolve complex technical issues and provide high-level troubleshooting.
   Mentor, coach, and direct mid-level and junior engineers.
   Drive innovation, best practices, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering is required.
  • CEAB accredited is preferred.
  • P. Eng designation is highly preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of Instrumentation & Controls engineering experience, preferably within power generation, EPC, or industrial environments.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the power generation market preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA, DCS and PLC systems is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with control system programming concepts
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to project success
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience mentoring peers.
