Job description

Regional Fertility Program is hiring a part-time Sterile Processing Technician for our clinic located in Calgary. This position will primarily work weekdays, 2 days per week.

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the accurate and timely collection, decontamination, sterilization, packaging and delivery of all medical instrumentation and trays within the clinic. They will be responsible for performing work that strictly adheres to sterilization procedures and regulations and will be required to perform quality control through continuous testing and cleaning of all sterilization equipment and instruments. The Sterile Processing Technician will also be tasked with keeping proper documentation of all sterilization procedures and will monitor and order inventory and equipment as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain daily and weekly cleaning and sterilizing routines for the entire clinic except the IVF Laboratory and Diagnostic Semen Laboratory
    • Cleans procedure room and recovery room as per protocols.
    • Decontaminates all instruments and materials as per protocols.
    • Cleans and sets up ultrasound room for patient care daily.
    • Cleans tables and chairs in exam rooms.
    • Collects dirty laundry daily.
    • Prepares and maintains/tests solutions.
    • Replaces full biohazard containers as necessary.
    • Cleans and lubricates instruments as per protocol.
    • Sterilizes instruments and materials as per protocols.
  • Maintains sterilization records.
  • Ensure adherence to clinic protocols and relevant guidelines (eg. College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.)
  • Maintain clinic equipment, including annual certification as required:
    • Autoclave;
    • BI Incubator;
    • Vital signs monitors;
    • Automated External Defibrillator.
  • Orders clinic supplies according to established quotas and clinic needs:
    • Cleans and restocks clinic rooms daily;
    • Orders and distributes clean laundry.
  • Monitor cleaning of clinic and communicate deficiencies to outside cleaners.
  • Maintains sterilization records.
  • Assist Medical Director for accreditation preparations

Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous sterilization experience is an asset
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable.
  • Punctual.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Hepatitis B Vaccination (preferred)
  • MMR vaccination (required)
