In-House Counsel

Your Impact

The new role of In-House Counsel will have an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the firm by supporting the firm’s core practice of architecture, as well as various corporate legal needs such as professional service contracts, insurance, development of corporate policies, business registration, and compliance.
A tight collaborative relationship with all technical and support teams and a solid grasp of the AEC industry will be key to success in this role. The ideal candidate will be able to build relationships across our organization through various communication methods and collaboration to adjust and pivot to the ever-changing needs of the firm. Trust, influence, and strong project management skills will be crucial to the success of this role.

Your Role

  • Negotiate design service contracts for residential, senior living, hospitality, retail and mixed-use projects across the country and internationally
  • Negotiate and draft sub consultant contracts, vendor service contracts, settlement agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and various legal correspondence
  • Manage insurance policies and liaison with firm’s insurance brokers
  • Assist with the management and coordination of special projects that need legal expertise
  • Liaison with outside counsel on litigation
  • Negotiate and settle disputes with clients and sub consultants
  • Assist in evaluation of current and prospective policies and procedures, implementation and rollout of corporate policies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Practical, business-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in collaboration with others, including designers and support departments

  • Ability to communicate legal concepts and concerns to architects and other non-attorneys

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. with admission to at least one bar
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Experience or knowledge of construction and design a plus
  • Basic office skills and business acumen
  • Strong time management/workflow efficiency skills
  • Accurate and detail oriented
  • Strong organization skills, ability to multitask
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in Architecture, Engineering or Homebuilder fields preferred
