What is a contract frontend developer?

Contract Frontend Developers are professionals hired on a temporary or project basis to build and maintain the user-facing parts of websites and web applications. They specialize in technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and often work with frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Unlike full-time employees, contract frontend developers typically work for a set duration or until the completion of specific tasks. Their flexible arrangement allows companies to scale development efforts according to project needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract frontend developer?

To thrive as a Contract Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a solid understanding of modern frontend frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular, often supported by a relevant degree or bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools (Webpack, npm), and responsive design practices is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you adapt quickly and collaborate effectively with remote teams or multiple clients. These skills ensure timely, high-quality project delivery and seamless integration into diverse development environments.

What are some common challenges contract frontend developers face when joining new projects, and how can they adapt quickly?

Contract Frontend Developers often need to ramp up rapidly with unfamiliar codebases and team workflows. Adapting quickly involves proactive communication with team members, thorough review of project documentation, and leveraging onboarding resources provided. Familiarity with popular frameworks and version control systems helps, but flexibility and a willingness to ask clarifying questions are key. Building rapport with the team and participating in code reviews can also accelerate the adaptation process.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Frontend Developer with a strong AI background to join our team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in modern frontend frameworks, hands‑on experience with AI‑assisted design and code generation workflows, and the ability to work across the full delivery stack — from Figma designs through to backend integrations. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable collaborating with designers and backend engineers, working with streaming data pipelines, and applying security best practices across the frontend layer.

Key Responsibilities Frontend Development
  • Design and build responsive, performant, and accessible web applications using Angular and React.
  • Translate Figma designs and prototypes into pixel‑perfect, production‑ready UI components with precision and attention to detail.
  • Build and maintain reusable component libraries and design systems aligned with UX standards.
  • Ensure cross‑browser compatibility and optimal performance across devices and screen sizes.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well‑documented frontend code following established best practices.
AI‑Assisted Development
  • Leverage AI‑powered code generation tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, v0, or similar) to accelerate frontend development velocity.
  • Use AI tooling to generate, refine, and review UI components from design specifications and natural language prompts.
  • Integrate AI‑driven features and experiences into the frontend — including intelligent UI interactions and AI assistant interfaces.
  • Stay current with the rapidly evolving AI‑assisted development landscape and bring new tools and workflows to the team.
Design Collaboration & Figma
  • Work closely with UX/UI designers using Figma as the primary design handoff tool.
  • Participate in design reviews, provide frontend feasibility input, and contribute to design system consistency.
  • Convert Figma components, auto‑layouts, and prototypes into reusable frontend code efficiently.
  • Collaborate with designers to define interaction patterns, animations, and responsive behaviors.
Backend Integration
  • Integrate frontend applications with backend services built on C#, .NET, and Node.js.
  • Work with backend engineers to define and consume RESTful API contracts and manage data state effectively.
  • Handle authentication and authorisation flows including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and SSO across frontend and backend boundaries.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across the stack in close collaboration with backend teams.
Streaming Data
  • Build frontend interfaces that consume and display real‑time and streaming data using WebSockets, server‑sent events, or similar technologies.
  • Optimise UI rendering and state management for high‑frequency data updates and live data feeds.
  • Collaborate with backend teams to design efficient data streaming patterns that balance performance and user experience.
Security
  • Apply frontend security best practices including protection against XSS, CSRF, and injection vulnerabilities.
  • Implement secure authentication and session management patterns in collaboration with backend and security teams.
  • Ensure sensitive data handling, input validation, and secure API communication are embedded throughout the frontend codebase.
  • Participate in security reviews and contribute to resolving identified vulnerabilities.
Collaboration & Delivery
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand‑ups, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including product owners, designers, backend engineers, and QA.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback to peers.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes for frontend applications.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of hands‑on experience in frontend development delivering enterprise‑grade web applications.
  • Expert‑level proficiency in Angular and React, with strong knowledge of JavaScript / TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Figma — including design handoff, component inspection, and design‑to‑code workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience using AI‑powered code generation tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, v0, or similar) in a professional development context.
  • Solid experience integrating frontend applications with backend services built on C#, .NET, and Node.js.
  • Experience building frontend interfaces that consume real‑time and streaming data via WebSockets or server‑sent events.
  • Strong understanding of frontend security principles including XSS, CSRF, secure authentication, and safe data handling.
  • Familiarity with state management patterns such as Redux, NgRx, or Zustand.
  • Understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, and SSO authentication patterns.
  • Experience with modern build tooling — Webpack, Vite, or similar.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments with distributed teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical decisions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
