Job description

Job SummaryLiberty Electric is searching for a Fiber Optic Technician to join our team. We are Union shop out of local 46. The position involves working on existing and new fiber optic networks in the greater Seattle area. The candidate will be part of construction from start to finish. Task will include everything innerduct, fiber optic cable, patch panel, splice case placement, and fusion splicing. Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform prep and fusion of single-mode or multi-mode fiber optic cables for both inside and outside plant construction.Perform fiber panel audits and splice case audits.Properly place mid-sheath splices.Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR, optical power meter, fiber identifier and scope.Work with Construction Project Managers and Fiber Design to perform splicing as directed.Provide Fiber Design team with detailed reports of field splicing activity.Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NESC and NEC, etc.; as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations, and Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook).Clean, maintain, stock and secure equipment.Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic that can provide high productivity with minimal supervision.Construct proper splice cases pressurized and non-pressurized, using all types and sizes of cable, including, but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.Make precise recommendations for changes in running fiber optic cables and provide input into construction methodologies.In coordination with Construction Manager, prepare required Wimps needed with the NOC for all maintenance splicing required.Work with Fiber Design on required parts and equipment.Work flexible hours as needed and on-call nights and weekends.Fiber Optic Cable PlacementInnerduct PlacementMust possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record. Requirements/QualificationsEducation:High school diploma or equivalentExperience:5+ year of splicing experience with the ability to properly place a mid-sheath splice.
