Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer

Job Location: Indianapolis, IN (onsite)

Pay Range: $57 – $62/hr

Contract: 7 months with possible extensions or C2H

Job Description :

The Embedded Software Engineer will design, develop, debug, and maintain firmware for hardware-based systems. This role will collaborate closely with hardware and engineering teams to ensure reliable integration, performance, and functionality of embedded products.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded firmware using C for microcontroller-based systems.
  • Design and maintain bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware.
  • Work with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and interrupt-driven architectures.
  • Implement and troubleshoot peripherals including DMA, timers, watchdogs, GPIO, UART, SPI, and I2C.
  • Develop bootloaders and firmware update mechanisms, including wireless OTA updates.
  • Perform low-level debugging using tools such as J-Link, SWD, and GDB.
  • Design firmware with a focus on reliability, efficiency, and low-power operation.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams on system integration and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with wireless protocol layers, including MAC/PHY-level development or customization, is highly preferred.
  • Experience with wireless SDKs and custom protocol implementation is a strong advantage.

  • Experience with key provisioning and secure credential storage.
  • Knowledge of encrypted OTA updates and secure authentication/pairing.
  • Awareness of replay protection and embedded device security practices.
  • Experience developing modular, event-driven, and state-machine-based firmware.
  • Familiarity with hardware abstraction layers, Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and firmware documentation.


Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
