Job description

Bloomfield Public Schools anticipates openings for the role of Special Education Teacher at the Elementary school level for the 2026/27 School Year.
Location:  Laurel Elementary
Salary:  Teachers BEA Agreement
Work Year:  Ten-month position (186 days) 7.25 hours/day



We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Special Education Teacher to lead a self-contained K2 classroom, providing individualized instruction and a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


?    Deliver engaging instruction in core content areas, functional skills, and social-emotional learning.
?    Provide intensive academic and behavioral support in a highly structured, positive classroom environment.
?    Use a variety of evidence-based strategies, materials, and assistive technology tools to support diverse learners.
?    Monitor student progress through data collection, formative assessment, and collaboration with related service providers.
?    Build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
?    Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with IDEA regulations to support equitable education for students with disabilities.
?    Implement safety interventions when necessary.






Qualifications/Competencies Required Education and/or Experience:


?    Demonstrated ability to remain focused and productive in high-demand situations.
?    Knowledge of strong, validated, evidenced-based intervention  programs
?    A minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience preferred but not required
?    Well-developed oral, written and speaking skills



Certifications/Licenses/Registrations Required:


?    Connecticut certification with the appropriate endorsement for Special Education Teacher 165 or 065 or be immediately eligible for appropriate Connecticut Certification endorsement for Special Education Teacher
