What is a Contract DoD SkillBridge?

A Contract DoD SkillBridge position refers to a role offered through the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge program, which allows active-duty service members to gain valuable civilian work experience during their last 180 days of military service. In this context, 'contract' means the position is with a company or organization that has a contractual relationship with the DoD to provide SkillBridge internships. These roles help transitioning service members build skills and make connections that can lead to full-time employment after their military service ends.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a Contract DoD SkillBridge participant expect during their internship?

As a Contract DoD Skillbridge participant, you will typically be assigned to projects that align with your military experience and the organization's current needs. These responsibilities may include assisting with contract administration, supporting procurement processes, or helping with compliance and documentation tasks. Skillbridge participants often work closely with seasoned contract professionals, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to civilian contracting practices. The work environment is usually collaborative, and you'll have opportunities to learn from mentors while contributing to real-world projects that support government clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DoD SkillBridge participant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DoD SkillBridge participant, you need a strong background in your military occupational specialty, a solid understanding of transition processes, and eligibility as an active-duty service member nearing separation. Familiarity with industry-relevant tools, certifications, and systems applicable to your targeted civilian career path is highly beneficial. Adaptability, initiative, and effective communication are vital soft skills for integrating into civilian work environments and maximizing learning opportunities. These skills and qualities are important because they ensure a smooth transition, enable you to gain practical civilian experience, and position you for post-military career success.

Job description

DoD SkillBridge Internship

The DOD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences. For Service members SkillBridge provides an invaluable chance to work and learn in civilian career areas. For ProteQ, SkillBridge is an opportunity to access and leverage the world's most highly trained and motivated workforce at no cost. Service members participating in SkillBridge receive their military compensation and benefits, and industry partners provide the training and work experience.

SkillBridge is an excellent benefit for installation and Unit Commanders who have members about to be discharged from Active Duty. SkillBridge can help Service members bridge the gap between the end of service and the beginning of their civilian careers. Commanders can greatly ease this return to civilian life by supporting their reports' interest in SkillBridge. When mission permits, Commanders who support SkillBridge participation are helping their personnel find a civilian career with a trusted employer.

Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. ProteQ offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member's suitability for the work.

ProteQ provides technical, business, and programmatic management services to government and commercial clients.
