Engagement:

We are engaging a contract developer to help us build, enhance, and support the order management and e-commerce systems.

Job Description Overview:

As a Software Developer on the Ecommerce team, you will work in our agile development environment to add new features, enhance current functionality, and fix bugs in our order management and customer-facing systems. Our systems and services are comprised of several different technologies, but this position will center around Ruby and Ruby on Rails backed by MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server, with a mix of traditional server-side-rendering and React front end. This role will also interact with other organizations and teams within the company and will have the opportunity to interface with other internal APIs and systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Software Development

  • Work in an Agile environment to collaborate, analyze, design, develop, deploy, and support applications to meet business and technical needs and requirements.
  • Build and maintain full-stack features end to end Ruby/Rails services and APIs on the back end, SSR, React, and Stimulus JS on the front end.
  • Write well-designed, testable code with containerized deployments and continuous integration testing approaches.
  • Participate in weekly sprint cycles
  • Keep stakeholders informed of your progress using the issue management system.

Systems Support

  • Work with the e-commerce team to support and enhance the day-to-day operations of the applications and systems you will be working on.
  • Collaborate with end-users to find innovative solutions to problems.
  • Resolve critical production downtime issues.

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University plus at least three years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

Technical skills requirements:

  • Ruby and Ruby on Rails (production experience building and maintaining Rails applications and APIs)
  • Full-stack front-end development with React; comfortable with modern JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Strong RDBMS experience with MySQL query optimization across MySQL
  • Familiarity with test-driven development; unit and integration testing (RSpec, Cypress/Playwright)
  • Experience with Sidekiq Enterprise, AWS SQS, EventBridge, and other distributed work queue / background job systems
  • Experience developing solutions in a cloud environment (AWS preferred), including ECS, Lambda, Kubernetes
  • Experience with Docker/containerization and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub actions or similar) for automated builds and deployments
  • Experience with Git and its best practices
  • Familiarity with Monday/Linear for task management
  • Experience working with distributed services and microservices
